  1. 6. Pressure autoregulation of cerebral blood flow in traumatic brain injury and aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage

    Författare :Ulf Johnson; Per Enblad; Lars-Owe Koskinen; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; cerebral blood flow; autoregulation; traumatic brain injury; subarachnoid hemorrhage; Neurosurgery; Neurokirurgi;

    Sammanfattning : The ability of the brain to keep a stable and adequate cerebral blood flow (CBF) independently of fluctuations in systemic blood pressure is referred to as cerebral pressure autoregulation (CPA). When the brain is injured by trauma or hemorrhage, this ability may be impaired, leaving the brain vulnerable to events of high or low blood pressure. LÄS MER

  2. 7. Traumatic brain injury in elderly patients

    Författare :Samuel Lenell; Per Enblad; Anders Lewén; Alfonso Lagares; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Traumatic brain injury; Elderly; Outcome; Standardized neurosurgical intensive care; Quality register; Prognostic factors; Secondary insults; Neurointensive care monitoring; Pressure reactivity index; Optimal cerebral perfusion pressure; Cerebral autoregulation; Neurokirurgi; Neurosurgery;

    Sammanfattning : The increase of elderly traumatic brain injury (TBI) patients constitutes a considerable challenge. The aim was therefore to specifically study elderly TBI patients with respect to patient characteristics, neurointensive care (NIC) and outcome, and to identify age specific features, which may be important for selection of patients and optimization of NIC in the elderly. 3. 8. Cellular and Molecular Responses to Traumatic Brain Injury

    Författare :Camilla Lööv; Anna Erlandsson; M. Elly Hol; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Traumatic Brain Injury; Astrocyte; Apoptosis; Biomarkers; Ezrin; Actin; Extracellular Proteins; Degradation; Lysosome; Antigen Presentation; Neuroscience; Neurovetenskap; Neurosurgery; Neurokirurgi;

    Sammanfattning : Traumatic brain injury (TBI) is a relatively unknown disease considering the tens of millions of people affected around the world each year. Many TBI patients die from their injuries and survivors often suffer from life-long disabilities. LÄS MER

  4. 9. Metabolic and Endocrine Response in the Acute Stage of Subarachnoid Hemorrhage

    Författare :Christoffer Nyberg; Elisabeth Ronne Engström; Torbjörn Karlsson; Lars Hillered; Silvana Naredi; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Subarachnoid hemorrhage; Energy Expenditure; BNP; Animal Model; Cortisol; Microdialysis; Neurokirurgi; Neurosurgery;

    Sammanfattning : The rupture of an aneurysm in subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) is a dramatic event causing a severe impact on the brain and a transient or permanent ischemic condition. Several types of responses to meet the challenges of SAH have been found in the acute phase, including activation of the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis and the sympathetic nervous system, elevated levels of brain natriuretic peptide (BNP), and disturbances in cerebral and systemic metabolism. 5. 10. Quality systems to avoid secondary brain injury in neurointensive care

    Författare :Lena Nyholm; Per Enblad; Camilla Fröjd; Anders Lewén; Bo-Michael Bellander; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Traumatic brain injury; Subarachnoid hemorrhage; Intracranial pressure; Quality register; Checklist; Nursing interventions; Pressure autoregulation; Intracranial compliance; Hyperthermia; Cerebral energy metabolism; Microdialysis and Brain tissue oxygenation.; Neurokirurgi; Neurosurgery;

    Sammanfattning : Outcome after traumatic brain injury (TBI) depends on the extent of primary cell death and on the development of secondary brain injury. The general aim of this thesis was to find strategies and quality systems to minimize the extent of secondary insults in neurointensive care (NIC). LÄS MER
