11. Neuropeptides in temporomandibular joint arthritis
Sammanfattning : Involvement of the peripheral and central nervous systems in the pathophysiology of arthritis has been suggested and neuropeptides are thought to participate in the mediation and modulation of the inflammatory process. The main objective of the clinical studies was to investigate the relationship between the presence of neuropeptides in the synovial fluid of the temporomandibular joint (TMJ) and the stomatognathic symptoms and signs, including the intra-articular temperature (IAT), in patients with TMJ arthritis. 12. Neuropeptides in bone and joint tissues : alteration in adjuvant arthitis
Sammanfattning : In this thesis, the localization, distribution and quantification of met-enkephalin (Met-enk), neurokinin-A and somatostatin in normal bone and joint tissues of the rat have been studied. Moreover, concentration alterations of these neuropeptides at the site of inflammation in the arthritic ankle joints as well as the spinal cords were evaluated. LÄS MER
13. Tachykinergic mechanisms in atopic dermatitis
Sammanfattning : Atopic dermatitis (AD) is an often severely itching, chronic, inflammatory skin disorder and may worsen due to stress and anxiety. Tachykinins have been suggested to influence the level of inflammation as well as being involved in pruritus, stress and anxiety. LÄS MER
14. Effects of Inflammatory Mediators on Pulmonary Airways
Sammanfattning : Chronic inflammation is together with excessive contraction of the airways key features of asthma. The aims of the thesis were to analyze the effect of inflammatory mediators on airway smooth muscle, using an in vitro model of cultured murine airways. LÄS MER
15. Modulation by substance P in the lamprey spinal cord
Sammanfattning : Neuromodulation is a key element for animal adaptation to environmental circumstances. Neuromodulators can alter the output of a physiological system by acting on the motor circuit by transforming intrinsic firing properties and altering synaptic strength. Substance P belongs to the family of tachykinin, which are peptidergic neuromodulators. LÄS MER
