11. Role of interleukin-1 in fever and inflammation
Sammanfattning : The proinflammatory cytokines interleukin (IL) -1α, IL-1β and IL-6 are key mediators in the host's response to injury and infection. One of the systemic responses elicited by these proinflammatory cytokines, when injected peripherally or centrally, is fever. Thus, these proteins may act as endogenous pyrogens. LÄS MER
12. Processing of the amyloid precursor protein and its paralogues amyloid precursor-like proteins 1 and 2
Sammanfattning : Alzheimer’s disease (AD) is a neurodegenerative disorder which is histopathologically characterised by amyloid plaques and neurofibrillary tangles. Amyloid plaques consist of the amyloid β-peptide (Aβ) that can form aggregates in the brain. Aβ is generated from the amyloid precursor protein (APP) through proteolytic cleavage. LÄS MER
13. Development of a new protective group for tryptophan
Sammanfattning : A new protective group for the indole nitrogen of the amino acid tryptophan, the Boc-sarcosinoyl-sarcosinolyl (Boc-Sar-Sar) is described. This protective group shows good stability to the reaction conditions used in solid phase peptide synthesis and is incorporated into the peptide as FmocTrp(BocSarSar)OH. LÄS MER
14. Structures, toxicity and internalization of cell-penetrating peptides
Sammanfattning : Cellular internalization is a highly regulated process controlled by proteins in the plasma membrane. Large and hydrophilic compounds, in particular, face difficulties conquering the plasma membrane barrier in order to gain access to intracellular environment. This puts serious constrains on the drug industry since many drugs are hydrophilic. LÄS MER
15. Activation and Regulation of TRPV1 : Studies in Recombinant Human Neuroblastoma TRPV1-SHSY5Y Cells
Sammanfattning : TRPV1 is a transmembrane non-selective cation channel with preference for Ca2+. The receptor is primarily localised on dorsal root ganglion neurons and is activated by numerous endogenous and exogenous potentially irritating ligands eliciting pain. LÄS MER
