21. Cell-penetrating peptides : Uptake mechanism and the role of receptors
Sammanfattning : Genes are the major regulators of biological processes in every living thing. Problems with gene regulation can cause serious problems for the organism; for example, most cancers have some kind of genetic component. Regulation of biological processes using oligonucleotides can potentially be a therapy for any ailment, not just cancer. LÄS MER
22. Oligonucleotide Complexes with Cell-Penetrating Peptides : Structure, Binding, Translocation and Flux in Lipid Membranes
Sammanfattning : The ability of cell-penetrating peptides to cross plasma membranes has been explored for various applications, including the delivery of bioactive molecules to inhibit disease-causing cellular processes. The uptake mechanisms by which cell-penetrating peptides enter cells depend on the conditions, such as the cell line the concentration and the temperature. LÄS MER
23. Cell models for evaluation of adult and developmental neurotoxicity : Focus on acrylamide
Sammanfattning : This thesis is aimed at summarizing some of the alternative in vitro methods and models that have been used to study both adult and developmental neurotoxicity (DNT), and also to pinpoint some of the important aspects of using alternative in vitro methods. The aim of the papers included in this thesis was to challenge the hypothesis that neurotoxicity and DNT of chemicals can be studied using robust endpoints for proliferation and neural differentiation, such as neurite outgrowth, mRNA expression and protein expression, in two different cell lines. 24. Design, Synthesis and Characterization of Galanin Receptor Selective Ligands
Sammanfattning : Galanin is a 29/30 amino acid long bioactive peptide discovered over 30 years ago when C-terminally amidated peptides were isolated from porcine intestines. The name galanin originates from a combination of the first and last amino acids - G from glycine and the rest from alanine. LÄS MER
25. Kinetic assays for RNA-cleaving deoxyribozymes and other nucleases
Sammanfattning : In this thesis two different assays for real-time RNA-cleaving deoxyribozyme and general nuclease kinetics are presented. Previous publications on nuclease kinetic assays have been riddled with drawbacks of labeling, discontinuity, cost etc. LÄS MER
