1. Manipulating neural stem cells
Sammanfattning : The stem cell field is a fairly young but fast growing scientific field. Our understanding of stem cells has changed tremendously over the last couple of decades. This in mainly due to the development of new techniques that has enabled us to study stem cells from a completely new perspective. LÄS MER
2. Neural control of inflammation
Sammanfattning : Pioneering research on neural control of inflammation has paved the way for new and exciting developments in the growing field of bioelectronic medicine. In the past couple of decades, pre-clinical research on the role of the vagus nerve in inflammation and immunity has brought electrical stimulation of select nerves into clinical trials for the treatment of chronic inflammatory diseases. 3. Features of adult neural progenitor cells
Sammanfattning : The adult Central Nervous System (CNS) harbors neural progenitor cells (NPCs) in three areas: the subventricular zone (SVZ) of the lateral ventricles and the subgranular zone in the hippocampus and around the central canal in the spinal cord. The NPCs can be isolated and cultured in vitro. LÄS MER
4. Neural control of standing posture
Sammanfattning : When humans are asked to stand normally, they are not completely motionless. Rather, small amounts of body movement, termed postural sway, can be observed. Although the postural sway of standing has been well described, the manner in which this sway is neurally controlled and its influence in tasks involving postural re-stabilization are not known. 5. ICU prognostication: Time to re-evaluate? Register-based studies on improving prognostication for patients admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU)
Sammanfattning : Background: ICU prognostication is difficult because of patients’ prior comorbidities and their varied reasons for admission. The model used for ICU prognostication in Sweden is the Simplified Acute Physiology Score 3 (SAPS 3), which uses information gathered within one hour of ICU admission to predict 30-day mortality.
