  1. 1. Tailored conjugates of N-acetylneuraminic acid and small molecules that block virus cell attachment and entry

    Författare :Emil Johansson; Mikael Elofsson; Niklas Arnberg; Geert-Jan Boons; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; N-acetylneuraminic acid; Neu5Ac; sialic acid; multivalency; Coxsackievirus A24v CVA24v ; Human adenovirus D37; D36; D26; HAdV-D37; HAdV-D26; HAdV-D36 ; 4-O-alkyl Neu5Ac; cryo-EM; branched pleconaril probes; conjunctivitis; organisk kemi; Organic Chemistry;

    Sammanfattning : Viruses are obligate intracellular parasites, unable to replicate without exploiting machinery andmaterials from host cells. Pandemics of viral diseases have had large impacts on human socieities and are continued threats to global health. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Some New Methods in Sialic Acid Chemistry

    Författare :Teddy Ercegovic; Centrum för analys och syntes; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; thioglycoside promoter; ganglioside; Tumor-associated antigen; lactam; lactone; sialic acid; N-acetylneuraminic acid; Neu5Ac; sialyl donor; auxiliary group; 3- S -phenylthio; bis-sialic acid lactam; 3- S -phenylseleno; silver trifluoromethanesulfonate; iodine monochloride; Organic chemistry; Organisk kemi;

    Sammanfattning : Gangliosides (G) are sialic acid-containing cell surface glycosphingolipids capable of forming lactones, i.e. inner esters. Some gangliosides are tumor-associated antigens, and they may serve as immunogens in their lactone form, where the latter is comparatively more abundant on the surface of malignant cells. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Sialic acid-dependent binding specificities of Helicobacter pylori and influenza virus. Importance of different parts of the binding sequences

    Författare :Petra Johansson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :sialic acid; carbohydrates; Helicobacter pylori; influenza virus; binding specificities; glycosphingolipids;

    Sammanfattning : Many viruses and bacteria adhere to host cell glycoconjugates in a specific manner, utilizing selected carbohydrate sequences. The aim of this work was to investigate at a molecular level the interactions of two important human pathogens, influenza virus and Helicobacter pylori, with sialylated carbohydrate structures. 4. 4. Glycan-based interactions of Streptococcus pneumoniae and the host

    Författare :Karina Hentrich; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Streptococcus pneumoniae is commonly found as an asymptomatic colonizer of the nasopharynx of children, but it can also translocate to normally sterile body sites and cause severe diseases, like pneumonia, septicemia or meningitis. Pneumococci spread via aerosols. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Structural studies on lipopolysaccharides from haemophilus species

    Författare :Brigitte Twelkmeyer; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Carbohydrates are indispensable mediators for a variety of cellular interactions. In biological systems carbohydrates are usually linked to a carrier as e.g. proteins or lipids. LÄS MER
