1. Towards Climate Based Early Warning and Response Systems for Malaria
Sammanfattning : Background: Great strides have been made in combating malaria, however, the indicators in sub Saharan Africa still do not show promise for elimination in the near future as malaria infections still result in high morbidity and mortality among children. The abundance of the malaria-transmitting mosquito vectors in these regions are driven by climate suitability. LÄS MER
2. On the Robustness of Air Pollution Policy Cost-Benefit Analysis
Sammanfattning : In December 2013 the European Commission proposed an amendment of the National Emissions Ceilings Directive with new ambition levels for harmful emissions of SO2, NOx, NH3, PM2.5, and Non-Methane Volatile Organic Compounds. LÄS MER
3. Primary HIV-1 infection : diagnostic, prognostic, and therapeutic aspects
Sammanfattning : Primary HIV-1 infection (PHI) is usually defined as a mononucleosis-like illness associated with seroconversion to HIV. In earlier studies using 1st generation antibody tests, the duration of the 'window period' from infection to detection of specific HIV-antibodies, could be 2 to 3 months, or longer. LÄS MER
4. Converter interactions in VSC-based HVDC systems
Sammanfattning : The main objective of this thesis is to perform stability and control studies in the area of VSC-HVDC. A major part of the investigation focuses on the explanation of poorly-damped conditions and instability that are linked to dc-side resonances. LÄS MER
5. On distributed real-time systems : the mStar environment, net-based learning and context-aware applications
Sammanfattning : This doctoral thesis presents two frameworks for distributed real-time systems, the mStar environment for Computer Supported Collaborative Work (CSCW) and the Alipes architecture for context-aware applications, from the perspective of distributed teamwork and net-based learning. The mStar environment was designed to be symmetric and fully distributed, which allows all users equal access and thus full interactivity, as well as scalable through the use of IP multicast and a server-less design.
