17. Interval cancers, positive predictive value for malignance and other early quality indicators in mammographic screening for breast cancer
Sammanfattning : The study was designed to evaluate early quality indicators in screening for breast cancer. lt comprised, (i) investigations of compliance, recall, referral, cancer detection, and interval cancer rates in the Östergötland screening programme of women aged 40-74 years; (ii) evaluation of the three-stage diagnostic procedure for pre-operative assessment of women with suspicious mammographic findings; (iii) comprehensive analysis of all invasive interval cancers detected; and (iv) investigation into how to reduce the number of interval cancers without a concomitant increase in false positives. Sammanfattning : Background This thesis reports the results of three studies based on a pro-spective cohort study of an unselected population of patients with rectal cancer, and one study based on an exploratory study of a new patient edu-cation method as preparation for colorectal cancer surgery. The aim of study I was to investigate whether patient’s or doctor’s delay had an impact on quality of life at diagnosis, and in study III the development of quality of life after treatment for rectal cancer was investigated. 20. Incidentally detected adrenal lesions - radiological aspects
Sammanfattning : Incidentally detected adrenal lesions (“adrenal incidentalomas”) have become a growing clinical problem due to increased and refined radiology methods. Autopsy studies show frequencies as high as 7-8% in the elderly. A large part of such lesions give no health problems but some can be related to hormone overproduction or malignant disease. LÄS MER
