  1. 1. Lineshape in Quantum Cascade Lasers - Temperature, Screening and Broadening

    Författare :Rikard Nelander; Matematisk fysik; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Quantum Cascade Lasers; quantum wells; spectral lineshape; Non-Equilibrium Green s Functions; screening; temperature dependence;

    Sammanfattning : This dissertation deals with the optical properties of Quantum Cascade Lasers (QCLs). Studies are performed using transport calculations employing the theory of Non-Equilibrium Green's Functions, and screening is studied within the Random Phase Approximation. Focus is put on the temperature dependent effects in THz QCLs. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Preeclampsia and the Brain : Epidemiological and Magnetic Resonance Studies

    Författare :Maria Nelander; Johan Wikström; Anna-Karin Wikström; Inger Sundström Poromaa; Gerda Zeeman; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; preeclampsia; eclampsia; seizure; MRI; MRS; IVIM; dementia; cardiovascular disease; magnesium; cerebral organic osmolytes; perfusion; Obstetrik och gynekologi; Obstetrics and Gynaecology;

    Sammanfattning : Preeclampsia is a pregnancy specific syndrome that causes substantial maternal and fetal morbidity and mortality. One major contributor to maternal deaths is eclampsia, i.e. when seizures arise in the context of preeclampsia. LÄS MER

  3. 3. A genomic approach to smooth muscle differentiation and diversity

    Författare :Sven Nelander; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Keywords: smooth muscle; phenotype; transcriptional regulation; differentiation; transcriptome; microarray; computational prediction; co-expression network; regulatory sequence analysis; gene module; gene battery;

    Sammanfattning : Smooth muscle cells (SMCs) are a broad class of contractile cells that are found in a number of organs systems, including the vasculature, the urogenital system, the bronchi and the gastrointestinal tract. The two main functions exerted by SMCs are to provide contractile force and to synthesize structural components of the extracellular matrix. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Characterization of human dopaminergic neurons in the developing mesencephalon and upon differentiation of stem cells- for replacement therapy in Parkinson´s disease

    Författare :Jenny Nelander Wahlestedt; Utvecklings- och regenerativ neurobiologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Parkinson´s disease; stem cells; ventral mesencephalon; dopaminergic neurons; cell replacement therapy; human fetal tissue; radial glia; microRNA; BAC recombineering; reporter cell lines;

    Sammanfattning : Cell-replacement therapy is a promising approach for treating patients with Parkinson ́s disease (PD). For this purpose, there is a need for developing a protocol that can generate high numbers of human transplantable mesencephalic dopaminer- gic (mesDA) neurons. LÄS MER

  5. 5. New targeted therapies for malignant neural tumors : From systematic discovery to zebrafish models

    Författare :Elin Almstedt; Sven Nelander; Rogier Versteeg; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; neuroblastoma; glioblastoma; data integration; zebrafish models; precision medicine; Oncology; Onkologi; Medical Cell Biology; Medicinsk cellbiologi; Medical Informatics; Medicinsk informatik; Farmakokinetik och läkemedelsterapi; Pharmacokinetics and Drug Therapy; Molekylär medicin; Molecular Medicine;

    Sammanfattning : Cancers in the neural system presents a major health challenge. The most aggressive brain tumor in adults, glioblastoma, has a median survival of 15 months and few therapeutic options. High-risk neuroblastoma, a childhood tumor originating in the sympathetic nervous system, has a 5-year survival under 50%, despite extensive therapy. LÄS MER
