1. From Branes to Brains : On M-theory and Understanding Thermodynamics
Sammanfattning : This thesis is concerned with research in both physics and physics education, and is divided into two parts.Part IString theory has been the leading candidate over the past few years for a theory that unifies all the fundamental forces of nature. LÄS MER
2. Moralen, barnet eller vetenskapen? : En studie av tradition och förändring i lärarutbildningen
Sammanfattning : Tradition and change in compulsory school teacher education are studied historically, using the theoretical framework of curriculum theory and theory of cultural reproduction. The concepts of classification and framing are used as analytic devices. LÄS MER
3. Phenomenology of Higgs Bosons Beyond the Standard Model
Sammanfattning : After a long history of searches, a Higgs boson H was discovered by the ATLAS and the CMS experiments at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) in 2012. Its properties fit well the ones predicted by the Standard Model (SM) of particle physics. However, the SM can not explain other established properties of Nature, such as the existence of Dark Matter. LÄS MER
4. Metal film growth on weakly-interacting substrates : Stochastic simulations and analytical modelling
Sammanfattning : Thin films are nanoscale layers of material, with exotic properties useful in diverse areas, ranging from biomedicine to nanoelectronics and surface protection. Film properties are not only determined by their chemical composition, but also by their microstructure and roughness, features that depend crucially on the growth process due to the inherent out-of equilibrium nature of the film deposition techniques. 5. Proton-Coupled Electron Transfer from Hydrogen-Bonded Phenols
Sammanfattning : Proton-coupled electron transfer (PCET) is one of the elementary reactions occurring in many chemical and biological systems, such as photosystem II where the oxidation of tyrosine (TyrZ) is coupled to deprotonation of the phenolic proton. This reaction is here modelled by the oxidation of a phenol covalently linked to a Ru(bpy)32+-moitey, which is photo-oxidized by a laser flash-quench method. LÄS MER
