  1. 16. Life History and Tolerance and Resistance against Herbivores in Natural Populations of Arabidopsis thaliana

    Författare :Reiko Akiyama; Jon Ågren; Arjen Biere; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Arabidopsis thaliana; life history evolution; flowering time; germination; phenology; plant-herbivore interactions; natural selection; tolerance to leaf damage; resistance to herbivory; Plutella xylostella; Mamestra brassicae; Biology with specialization in Ecological Botany; Biologi med inriktning mot ekologisk botanik;

    Sammanfattning : In this thesis, I combined observational studies with field and greenhouse experiments to examine selection on life history traits and variation in tolerance and resistance against herbivores in natural populations of the annual herb Arabidopsis thaliana in its native range. I investigated (1) phenotypic selection on flowering time and plant size, (2) the effects of timing of germination on plant fitness, (3) the effect of leaf damage on seed production, and (4) correlations between resistance against a specialist and a generalist insect herbivore. 2. 17. Towards Next-Gen Machine Learning Asset Management Tools

    Författare :Samuel Idowu; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Machine Learning; Experiment Management; Experiment management tools; Asset Management; Asset Management Tools; Tools; ML Asset Taxonomy;

    Sammanfattning : Context: The proficiency of machine learning (ML) systems in solving many real-world problems effectively has enabled a paradigm shift toward ML-enabled systems. In ML-enabled software, significant software code artifacts (i.e., assets) are replaced by ML-related assets, introducing multiple system development and production challenges. LÄS MER

  3. 18. Effects of climate change on boreal wetland and riparian vegetation

    Författare :Lotta Ström; Roland Jansson; Christer Nilsson; Sarah Gergel; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; biomass; flooding; hydrologic niche; invasibility; riparian zone; riparian plant species; river margin; climate scenario; seed sowing experiment; species composition; species richness; transplant experiment; Terrestrial ecology; Terrestrisk ekologi;

    Sammanfattning : Models of climate change predict that temperature will increase during the 21th century and the largest warming will take place at high northern latitudes. In addition to warming, predictions for northern Europe include increased annual precipitation and a higher proportion of the precipitation during winter falling as rain instead of snow. LÄS MER

  4. 19. Looking for the Charged Higgs Boson : Simulation Studies for the ATLAS Experiment

    Författare :Martin Flechl; Tord Ekelöf; Richard Brenner; Kinnunen Ritva; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; charged Higgs; tau; ATLAS; HEP; CERN; LHC; Particle Physics; Grid; Physics; Fysik; högenergifysik; High Energy Physics;

    Sammanfattning : The discovery of a charged Higgs boson (H+) would be an unambiguous sign of physics beyond the Standard Model. This thesis describes preparations for the H+ search with the ATLAS experiment at the Large Hadron Collider at CERN. The H+ discovery potential is evaluated, and tools for H+ searches are developed and refined. LÄS MER

  5. 20. Process Models for CO2 Migration and Leakage : Gas Transport, Pore-Scale Displacement and Effects of Impurities

    Författare :Farzad Basirat; Auli Niemi; Karsten Jensen; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Geological Carbon Storage; CO2 leakage; Field experiment; Laboratory experiment design; Multi-phase flow; Heterogeneity; Wettability; Pore-scale modeling; Impurity gases; Hydrology; Hydrologi;

    Sammanfattning : Geological Carbon Storage (GCS) is considered as one of the key techniques to reduce the rate of atmospheric emissions of CO2 and thereby to contribute to controlling the global warming. A successful application of a GCS project requires the capability of the formation to trap CO2 for a long term. LÄS MER
