  1. 16. Atom Probe Tomography of Hydrogen and of Grain Boundaries in Corroded Zircaloy-2

    Författare :Gustav Sundell; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; corrosion; Field adsorption.; Hydrogen pick-up; Hydrogen analysis; Zirconium alloys; Atom probe tomography;

    Sammanfattning : Due to their low thermal neutron capture cross-section, zirconium alloys are widely used in the nuclear industry for fuel cladding and structural components. The lifetime of the fuel assemblies in the reactors are largely dictated by the ability of the fuel cladding to withstand corrosion and mechanical damage. LÄS MER

  2. 17. Development of Surface-Based Methods for Studies of Non-Electrolyte Membrane Transport

    Författare :Seyed Tabaei; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; membrane junction; surface plasmon resonance; membrane transfer; supported lipid bilayer; quartz crystal microbalance; aquaporin; bicelles; fluorescence microscopy;

    Sammanfattning : Membrane-transport proteins are a diverse family of proteins that all span the cell membrane where they control the transfer of nutrients, metabolites and ions into and out of the cell. Due to their vital role for the function of cells, reliable methods, preferably with high-throughput capacity, to study this class of proteins are essential in fundamental studies as well as in discovery and development of new drugs. 3. 18. Inference of Hierarchical Structure in Complex Systems

    Författare :Olof Görnerup; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Protein evolution; Substitution groups; Modularity; Hierarchical dynamics; RNA world; Genetic code; Aggregation; Primordial evolution; Molecular evolution; Model reduction; Self-organization; Lumping; Emergence; Coarse graining;

    Sammanfattning : Hierarchical organization is a central property of complex systems. It is even argued that a system is required to be hierarchical in order to evolve complexity within reasonable time. A hierarchy of a system is defined as the set of self-contained levels at which the system operates and can be described on. LÄS MER

  4. 19. Magnetic fields around massive protostars as traced by masers and dust emission

    Författare :Daria Dall` Olio; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; magnetic field – stars: formation – stars: massive – masers – dust – polarization – stars: individual: IRAS 18089-1732 – G9.62 0.19;

    Sammanfattning : It is not fully clear how the magnetic field acts during the first stages of star formation. A possible way to clarify its role is to observe the polarized light coming from masers and thermal dust emission. LÄS MER

  5. 20. Worse than Complex

    Författare :Petter Törnberg; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Evolutionary Developmental Theory; Complexity; Transitions; Naturalism; Innovation; Wicked Systems; Social Movements; Digital Trace Data; Innovation Society; Critical Realism;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis engages with questions on the boundary between what has traditionally been understood as social and natural. The introductory essay contextualizes the specific contributions of the included papers, by noting and exploring a reinvigoration of "naturalism" (the notion of a continuity between the human realm and the rest of natural phenomena) under the banner of Complexity Science.
