  1. 16. Neurodevelopmental Consequences of Exposure to Paracetamol (Acetaminophen) and Related Drugs : Experimental studies in mice

    Författare :Gaëtan Philippot; Robert Fredriksson; Vesna Jevtovic-Todorovic; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; paracetamol acetaminophen ; developmental neurotoxicology; delta9-tetrahydrocannabinol THC ; ibuprofen; endocannabinoid system; neonatal mice; brain growth spurt; behavior; Biology with specialization in Environmental Toxicology; Biologi med inriktning mot miljötoxikologi;

    Sammanfattning : Paracetamol (acetaminophen) is the analgesic pharmaceutical most commonly used during pregnancy and early life. While therapeutic doses of paracetamol are considered harmless during these periods, recent findings in both humans and rodents suggest a link between developmental exposure to paracetamol and behavioral consequences later in life. 2. 17. Developmental Neurotoxicity of Environmental Pollutants : Effects on neuronal protein markers after neonatal exposure

    Författare :Iwa Lee; Henrik Viberg; Elena Jazin; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Developmental neurotoxicity; Neonatal exposure; Protein markers; Environmental pollutants; Biologi med inriktning mot ekotoxikologi; Biology with specialization in Environmental Toxicology;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis focused on investigations of the developmental neurotoxic effects of bisphenol A (BPA) or perfluorohexane sulfonate (PFHxS), after a single neonatal exposure, during a critical period of the brain development in mice.BPA is a well-known industrial chemical used in the production of polymer products and PFHxS is used as an industrial additive as a surfactant. 3. 18. LIVING WITH PARASITES: AVIAN MALARIA, TELOMERE LENGTH AND LIFE HISTORY TRADE-OFFS

    Författare :Asghar Muhammad; MEMEG; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Avian malaria; Plasmodium; qPCR; parasitemia; life history; reproduction; survival; feather growth; MHC; telomere length; heritability; telomere loss; fitness; wild population; Acrocephalus arundinaceus; Delichon urbica;

    Sammanfattning : Haemosporidia is a well-studied group of parasites, which infect mammals, reptiles and birds and use blood sucking vectors for their transmission. By conducting natural population studies and experimental infections, We have been able to detect and quantify Haemosporidia from avian blood to investigate how these pathogens affect their avian hosts. 4. 19. Quantitative approaches to studying NK cell functional heterogeneity

    Författare :Per Olofsson; Björn Önfelt; Adnane Achour; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : It is commonly stated that the cell is the smallest functional unit of life. By analogy, then, the immune cell is the smallest functional unit of the immune system. LÄS MER

  5. 20. Why and how brain size evolves : Sociality, predation and allometry

    Författare :Wouter van der Bijl; Niclas Kolm; Joah Madden; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; brain size; brain size evolution; encephalization; predation; predator inspection; sociality; animal contest; constraint; etologi; Ethology;

    Sammanfattning : The evolution of the vertebrate brain has remained a topic of intense interest from biologists over many decades. Evolutionary biologists have seen it as an intriguing example of how the size and structure of a trait evolves across large phylogenies and under body size constraints, with both large shifts in deep evolutionary time and continuous smaller scale adaptation.
