6. New Tools for Analysis of Wood and Pulp Components - Application of MALDI-TOF Mass Spectroscopy and Capillary Zone Electrophoresis
Sammanfattning : In the present thesis, capillary zone electrophoresis (CZE),matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization time-of-flight massspectroscopy (MALDI-MS) and size-exclusion chromatography incombination with off-line MALDI-MS (SEC/MALDI-MS) have beenapplied successfully to the analysis of wood and pulpcomponents. The carbohydrate compositions of pulp and holocellulosesamples, as well as of isolated hemicellulose preparations, were determined employing enzymatic hydrolysis and subsequentanalysis of the saccharides released by CZE. 7. Free oligosaccharides and glycosylation of bile salt-stimulated lipase in human milk
Sammanfattning : Bile salt-stimulated lipase (BSSL) is a glycosylated protein present in milk at a concentration of 100-200 mg/L. It is an enzyme important for fat digestion in the newborn infant. The protein backbone contains one possible site for N-glyeosylation and several sites for 0-glyeosylation. LÄS MER
8. Sample handling in nanoscale chemistry
Sammanfattning : Miniaturization is a strong on-going trend within analyticalchemistry. This has led to an increased demand for newtechnologies allowing smaller volumes of samples as well asreagents to be utilized. This thesis deals with the use of openchip-based reactors (vials); a concept that offers an increasedflexibility compared to the use of closed reactors. LÄS MER
9. Analysis of phospholipids in cellular membranes with LC and imaging mass spectrometry
Sammanfattning : Imaging mass spectrometry enables the creation of molecule specific images from the surface of a solid sample in vacuum. To solve the issue of bringing single cells into vacuum without altering their native distribution of molecules, a freeze fracture device that fits the time of flight secondary ion mass spectrometry (TOF-SIMS) IV instrument has been developed. 10. PROBING SECRETORY VESICLES AND LIPOSOME MODEL SYSTEMS USING NANOSCALE ELECTROCHEMISTRY AND MASS SPECTROMETRY
Sammanfattning : Cellular communication is based on the process of exocytosis, regulated release of chemical messengers into the extracellular space. These messengers, neurotransmitters, are packed into vesicles that during exocytosis fuse with the plasma membrane and release their content. LÄS MER
