1. Interfacial Properties of Biomacromolecular Model Systems: Surface Forces and Nanotribology
Sammanfattning : The nanotribology, adhesion and related interfacial properties of biomacromolecular systems have been studied. The aim was to elucidate the role of physisorbed and chemically grafted bio-polymers implicated as mediators for cellulose based processing and material design. LÄS MER
2. Nanotribology, Surface Interactions and Characterization : An AFM Study
Sammanfattning : When two surfaces achieve contact, then contact phenomena such as adhesion, friction and wear can occur, which are of great interest in many disciplines, including physics, physical chemistry, material chemistry, and life and health sciences. These phenomena are largely determined by the nature and magnitude of the surface forces such as van der Waals, capillary and hydration forces. LÄS MER
3. Adhesion and Nanotribology of Biofibres
Sammanfattning : The fibre probe atomic force microscope is developed, which allows direct measurement of force and friction between single fibres at the nanoscale under various conditions. In this work, polyester and human hair fibres were used as being representative of synthetic and animal fibre. LÄS MER
4. Low-friction and wear-resistant carbon nitride coatings for bearing components grown by magnetron sputtering
Sammanfattning : The scope of this thesis is the investigation of magnetron sputtered carbon nitride coatings suitable for roller bearing components. The research field of tribology of bearings focuses on minimizing friction between components by improving the lubricants. LÄS MER
5. Studies of Nanowire Friction using AFM-based Manipulation
Sammanfattning : In this thesis we present friction studies on InAs nanowires pushed laterally across surfaces by an AFM tip. The contact length in the direction of movement is of the order of a few tens of nanometers, and is thus comparable to that found in existing point-contact studies, but perpendicular to the motion the wire can be several microns in length.
