16. A General Formalism for Continuous Feedback Control in Quantum Systems
Sammanfattning : This thesis devolops a general formalism for continuous feedback control in quantum systems. The main result is a quantum Fokker-Planck master equation describing the joint dynamics of a quantum system and a detector with finite bandwidth. For a fast detector, this equation can be reduced to a Markovian master equation for the system dynamics. LÄS MER
17. Development of techniques to determine extracellular matrix alterations in acute and chronic lung diseases and bioengineered tissues
Sammanfattning : Acute and chronic lung diseases are a major cause of global mortality. While pharmacological approaches exist, no therapies are curative. The only option at end-stage disease is lung transplantation which is hampered by a chronic shortage of donor organs. LÄS MER
18. Information Thermodynamics and Fluctuations in Quantum Dots
Sammanfattning : In small systems with large fluctuations, the classical description of thermodynamics is no longer sufficient which has led to the development of stochastic thermodynamics. One important result from stochastic thermodynamics is that with measurement and feedback it is possible to use those fluctuations to extract work from a single heat bath coupled to the system. 19. Material and technique development for ultrasound optical tomography using spectral hole burning filters
Sammanfattning : The molecular sensitivity provided by optical photons has potential advantages in medical diagnostics, for example, in distinguishing healthy from cancerous tissue. However, scattering resulting from inhomogeneities in the refractive index of tissues prevents spatially resolved optical measurements in biological material, except at very shallow depths. LÄS MER
20. Adventures of III-V Semiconductor Surfaces
Sammanfattning : Tailoring the surface composition and morphology of materials to enable new electronic devices is important for a wide range of applications such as quantum computing or spintronics. A fundamental understanding of the changes induced in the surface during different process steps can help to establish new synthesis routes as well as devices. LÄS MER
