1. Elucidating the molecular basis of Na+/H+ exchange
Sammanfattning : Solute carrier (SLC) transporters are membrane transport proteins, which catalyse the movement of nutrients, ions, and drugs across cell membranes. Here, I will present our contribution to understanding the mechanism of the sodium/proton exchangers (NHE), belonging to the SLC9 family of membrane transporters. LÄS MER
2. Transport of sodium and protons in the human placenta. Mechanisms in normal pregnancy and alterations in intrauterine growth restriction
Sammanfattning : The syncytiotrophoblast cell of the human placenta represents the interface between maternal and fetal blood supplies. This polarized epithelium consists of a maternal facing microvillous membrane (MVM) opposing a fetal facing basal membrane (BM). This unique syncytial cell is responsible for transfer of all nutrients to the developing fetus. LÄS MER
3. Determining Ligand- and Lipid- Interactions of SLC Transporters
Sammanfattning : Solute carrier transporters (SLCs) mediate the inter- and intra- cellular trafficking of a plethora of substrates and are essential to cell homeostasis. Despite their importance to human physiology and their potential as therapeutic targets, many SLCs are considered orphans as the physiological substrate has not been experimentally determined. 4. Establishing the molecular mechanism of sodium/proton exchangers
Sammanfattning : Sodium/proton exchangers are ubiquitous secondary active transporters that can be found in all kingdoms of life. These proteins facilitate the transport of protons in exchange for sodium ions to help regulate internal pH, sodium levels, and cell volume. LÄS MER
5. Studies of experimental brain trauma and ischemia : effects of Epo
Sammanfattning : Traumatic brain injury has attained a lot of scientific and clinical focus during a considerable amount of time but is still as of today regarded a highly lethal condition with a high degree of morbidity amongst the surviving. The complexity of the pathophysiological processes that start immediately after the primary injury are challenging – disruption of the blood-brain barrier (BBB), imbalance in metabolic supply and demand, neuroinflammation and formation of brain edema are some of the components in a plethora of existing processes.
