  1. 1. Chemical and stimulus-induced NMDA-dependent plasticity and the possible involved mechanisms

    Författare :Rui Li; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :synaptic plasticity; hippocampus; LTP; LTD; AMPA; NMDA; NR2A; NR2B;

    Sammanfattning : Long-term potentiation (LTP) and long-term depression (LTD) are considered as the most important forms of synaptic plasticity involved in learning and memory. The traditional way to induce LTP and LTD is by electric stimulation leading to activation of NMDA-R. LÄS MER

  2. 2. The Impact of Substance P (SP) N-Terminal Metabolite SP1-7 in Opioid Tolerance and Withdrawal

    Författare :Qin Zhou; Tsukasa Sakurada; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Pharmaceutical biosciences; Farmaceutisk biovetenskap; Biopharmacy; Biofarmaci; farmaceutisk biokemi; Pharmaceutical Biochemistry;

    Sammanfattning : The heptapeptide SP1-7, a metabolite of the neuroactive peptide substance P (SP), is suggested to play a role in opioid addiction and memory function. These two dimensions are known to involve dopamine and glutamate transmissions mediated through dopamine receptors and N-methyl-D- aspartate (NNMA) receptors, respectively. LÄS MER

  3. 3. On the role of NMDA receptor subunits in the acute and chronic effects of nicotine

    Författare :Alexander Kosowski; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :PCR; microdialysis; Wistar;

    Sammanfattning : Nicotine is considered the main dependence-producing constituent in tobacco products. In analogy with other drugs of abuse, nicotine enhances dopamine (DA) neurotransmission within the mesocorticolimbic DA system. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Human spinal cord transplantation : experimental and clinical application

    Författare :Elisabet Åkesson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : The main objectives of this Thesis was to further characterize the in situ human first trimester spinal cord tissue and to evaluate the survival, integration and possible neurological effects of solid human embryonic spinal cord grafts transplanted to cavities in the spinal cord of rat and man. Human-specific neurofilament and Thy-1 positive fibers were observed already at 5 weeks of gestation in the in situ human spinal cord, the earliest stage at which donor tissue was used for intraspinal transplantation. 5. 5. Experimental studies of N-methyl-D-aspartate receptor NR3 subunits

    Författare :Anna Öhman; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis focuses on the NR3A and NR3B subunits of the excitatory glutamate receptor N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA). Functional NMDA receptors are believed to be tetrameric complexes with combinations of NR1 and NR2 subunits, and possible addition of NR3 subunits. LÄS MER
