  1. 21. On antidepressant effects of running and SSRI : focus on hippocampus and striatal dopamine pathways

    Författare :Astrid Bjørnebekk; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Depression; exercise; neuropeptides; cell proliferation; neurogenesis; NPY; BDNF; Flinders Sensitive Line;

    Sammanfattning : Considering the heterogeneous character of depression, it seems likely that many brain regions are involved mediating the diverse symptoms of depression. For example, the mesolimbic DA system has a central function for motivational behaviors and pleasure seeking, and it is possible that malfunctioning of brain reward systems could be an underlying mechanism of the anhedonia experienced in depressive illness. 2. 22. The role of neuropeptides in spinal nociceptive mechanisms with special emphasis on galanin, neuropeptide Y and orphanin FQ/nociceptin

    Författare :Isabella Shi Xu; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :analgesia; antinociception; flexor reflex; galanin; galanin message-associated peptide GMAP ; neuropeptide Y NPY ; nociceptin; nociception; nocistatin; orphanin FQ; pain;

    Sammanfattning : Several peptides present in sensory neurons and in the spinal cord have been recognized to have inhibitory action in nociception. In this thesis, we have used the flexor reflex preparation in rats to study the role of several proposed inhibitory neuropeptides, galanin, galanin message-associated peptide (GMAP), neuropeptide Y (NPY), orphanin FQ and nocistatin in spinal nociceptive processing under normal conditions, after inflammation or peripheral nerve injury. 3. 23. Alcohol and the effect on some appetite-regulating hormones in man

    Författare :Jan Calissendorff; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Leptin; ghrelin; octanoylated; PYY3-36; GLP-1; obestatin; alcohol; NPY; IGF-1; IGFBP-1; insulin; glucose; testosterone; cortisol; catecholamines;

    Sammanfattning : Beverage containing alcohol has been used for centuries to stimulate appetite. Ingestion of a moderate amount of alcohol increase energy intake. Regulation of food intake is complex. Several factors cooperate such as neural impulses from sensory organs; sight, smell, gut distension, social setting, memory, current energy status and hormones. 4. 24. Neuropeptide expression in mouse disease models

    Författare :Margarita Diez; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Alzheimers disease; autoradiographic ligand binding; CCK; degeneration; dynorphin; enkephalin; galanin; immunohistochemistry; in situ hybridization; lesion; magnetic resonance imaging; megencephaly; NPY; prion infection; substance P.;

    Sammanfattning : The role of neuropeptides and the significance of peptidergic mechanisms in neurodegenerative diseases are still relatively unexplored. In the periphery, nerve injury results in dramatic changes in the expression of neuropeptides (and other molecules). LÄS MER

  5. 25. Hypothalamic neuronal circuits involved in the regulation of food intake and body weight : histochemical studies in lean rats and obese mutant mice

    Författare :Matilda Bäckberg; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :AGRP; arcuate nucleus; BBB; CART; GABA; GABA receptors; immunohistochemistry; in situ hybridization; hypothalamus; LHA; leptin; MCH; NPY; orexin; POMC; tubby;

    Sammanfattning : Obesity is a major health problem because of its dramatic increase in prevalence and its association with type 2 diabetes, coronary heart diseases, hypertension and stroke. It is well known that signals generated in response to feeding behavior are integrated in the brain. LÄS MER
