1. Adult hydrocephalus. Intracranial pressure, B-wave and clinical analysis in patients with noncommunicating and communicating hydrocephalus
Sammanfattning : Aims of present investigations. Adult patients with clinical and radiological findings consistent with normal pressure hydrocephalus (NPH) were studied. LÄS MER
2. Idiopathic Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus : Cerebrospinal Fluid Tap Test and Magnetic Resonance Imaging as Preoperative Prognostic Investigations
Sammanfattning : Idiopathic normal pressure hydrocephalus (iNPH) is a condition with dilated cerebral ventricles but intracranial pressure within normal limits. The symptoms of gait impairment, cognitive decline and urinary incontinence develop gradually. Treatment with shunt insertion results in improvement in eight out of ten patients. LÄS MER
3. Central neuropeptide Y (NPH) expression and function : role in stress, experimental anxiety, and cognition
Sammanfattning : Neuropeptide Y (NPY), a 36 amino acid peptide abundantly expressed throughout the mammalian nervous system, has been implicated in experimental anxiety and stress related responses, feeding, and learning and memory. These functions are mediated via different receptor subtype populations (Y1-Y6), all belonging to the G-protein coupled receptor superfamily. LÄS MER
4. White matter pathology in normal pressure hydrocephalus and subcortical arteriosclerotic encephalopathy. Clinical, CSF and MRI aspects
Sammanfattning : Normal pressure hydrocephalus (NPH) and subcortical arteriosclerotic encephalopathy (SAE) are common causes of gait disturbance, cognitive impairment and urinary incontinence in the elderly. In spite of a primarily different pathogenesis with a potentially reversible CSF dynamic disturbance in NPH and an irreversible microangiopathy in SAE, patients with NPH and SAE can present with similar symptoms and exhibit white matter changes that are difficult to distinguish, constituting a diagnostic and therapeutic challenge. 5. Long-acting insulin analogs in type 1 diabetes : effects on metabolic control, endogenous insulin production and the GH-IGF-axis
Sammanfattning : The treatment goal in type 1 diabetes is to achieve near-normal glycemia. Despite of the advancements of subcutaneous insulin therapy and glucose monitoring, metabolic control is not fully normalized and secondary endocrine disturbances in the growth-hormone (GH) - Insulin-like Growth Factor (IGF)-axis are important for the deterioration of metabolic control, particularly in children at puberty.
