21. Nitric oxide in experimental sepsis
Sammanfattning : Nitric oxide (NO) is important in the control of blood pressure and organ perfusion. In septic shock, NO produced by inducible NO-synthase (NOS) has been claimed to mediate pathological vasodilation and cell injury, while NO produced by constitutive NOS may be protective in counteracting hypoperfusion and organ injury. 22. Real-time multi-exposure laser speckle contrast imaging of skin microcirculatory perfusion
Sammanfattning : The microcirculation, the blood flow in the smallest blood vessels in the body, has a vital function as this is where oxygen and nutrients diffuses from the blood to to the surrounding cells. An important quantity is the tissue perfusion, a measure of the microcirculation’s capacity to provide oxygen and nutrients to the cells. LÄS MER
23. Formation and role of nitric oxide in host defense reactions in the urinary bladder
Sammanfattning : Nitric oxide (NO) is an important biological mediator and cell signaling molecule. It is also involved in several host defense reactions. NO is formed in vivo from L-arginine by the enzyme NO synthase (NOS). However, it can also be formed non-enzymatically from acidified nitrite. LÄS MER
24. Inducible nitric oxide synthase : in vascular smooth muscle cells
Sammanfattning : Besides the constitutively expressed nitric oxide synthase (NOS) in endothelial cells, vascular smooth muscle cells (SMC) have the potential to express the inducible isoform of NOS (iNOS). Given the important effects of nitric oxide and the high output of this enzyme, expression of iNOS in SMC and its pathophysiological significance were investigated in the present study. LÄS MER
25. Regulation of inducible nitric oxide synthase - Consequences in experimental models of bladder disease
Sammanfattning : Inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) expression is associated with various pathophysiological conditions in the lower urinary tract. The aims of this thesis have been to investigate the regulation of iNOS in bladder smooth muscle cells and the consequences on neuromuscular regulation, cell growth and differentiation. LÄS MER
