6. Mass Transport Properties in Supramolecular Systems Studied by Diffusion and Relaxation NMR
Sammanfattning : This thesis shows how diffusion and relaxation NMR can be applied in various aspects to study mass transport in supramolecular systems. Information about these systems can be obtained, either by direct measurement of the molecules that are incorporated in a supramolecular structure, or via probe molecules, which indirectly gives information about the system. 7. Protein Dynamics Studied by NMR Spin Relaxation. Conformational Transitions of a Calmodulin Mutant
Sammanfattning : Binding of calcium to the protein calmodulin leads to molecular reorganization that enables interaction with target peptides and activation of downstream processes. I have studied the dynamics of the calcium-loaded form of a C-terminal calmodulin mutant (E140Q-Tr2C) using NMR spin relaxation experiments. LÄS MER
8. The sweet side of molecular structure : NMR spectroscopic studies of glycans and their interactions with proteins
Sammanfattning : In this thesis, within the topic of bioorganic chemistry, the molecular structure of carbohydrates has been studied. Carbohydrates, or glycans, are ubiquitous biomolecules exhibiting a wide range of biological roles. LÄS MER
9. Isotope labeling of proteins for spectroscopic studies
Sammanfattning : Protein structural dynamics have been closely tied to the molecular mechanisms controlling for example enzyme activities. In my work, I have mainly studied the bacteriophytochrome from Deinococcus radiodurans. LÄS MER
10. Engineering of the Ultra-stable Cystine Knot Framework of Microproteins : Design, Chemical Synthesis and Structural Studies
Sammanfattning : Ultra-stable cystine knotted microproteins, in which two disulfides and their connecting backbones form a circle that is penetrated by the third disulfide bonds, have attracted high interest due to their resistance to degradation in vitro and potential for the development of peptide drugs. This thesis gives new insights into engineering of that framework of microproteins, including approaches to their chemical synthesis, backbone engineering, structural and biological evaluations.
