1. Regulation of pre-mRNA splicing and mRNA degradation in Saccharomyces cerevisiae
Sammanfattning : Messenger RNAs are transcribed and co-transcriptionally processed in the nucleus, and transported to the cytoplasm. In the cytoplasm, mRNAs serve as the template for protein synthesis and are eventually degraded. The removal of intron sequences from a precursor mRNA is termed splicing and is carried out by the dynamic spliceosome. LÄS MER
2. Simplified Nonsense: New Methods for Interrogating NMD
Sammanfattning : Nonsense mediated decay (NMD) is a pathway that regulates RNA turnover. Since its discovery, this pathway has been implicated in a variety of cellular processes ranging from differentiation to the restriction of viral replication. LÄS MER
3. Aspects on wall properties of the brachial artery in man : with special reference to SLE and insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus
Sammanfattning : The mechanical properties of the arterial wall are of great importance for blood pressure regulation and cardiac load. With increasing age, large arteries are affected by increased wall stiffness. LÄS MER
4. Studies on ventilatory function in chronic neuromuscular disorders
Sammanfattning : Ventilatory dysfunction is common in neuromuscular disorders (NMD). The present studies aimed at evaluating and developing methods for diagnosis of ventilatory function in NMD. Methods included were diaphragmatic EMG (EMGdi), blood gas monitoring assessed at rest and during exercise and nocturnal respiratory and sleep parameters. LÄS MER
5. Socioeconomic differences in drug use among older people : trends, polypharmacy, quality and new drugs
Sammanfattning : Polypharmacy and potentially inappropriate drug use (IDU) is a major patient safety and public health concern in the elderly, resulting in an increased likelihood of adverse drug reactions, drug-drug interactions (DDI), hospitalization, poor quality of life and mortality. This doctoral thesis investigated the complex relationship between drug use and socioeconomic position (SEP) and characterized the drug use, quality of prescribing, development of drug use over time, and use of new drugs in the elderly.
