6. Expression of stimulatory and inhibitory molecules in interactions between natural killer cells neurons
Sammanfattning : Natural killer (NK) cells are important effector cells of the innate and the early induced immune defense. In the nervous system they appear early during inflammation and have been ascribed a role in clearance of certain viral infections from the brain. NK cells are regulated by multiple signals transmitted via inhibitory and stimulatory receptors. LÄS MER
7. NK cell recognition of herpesviruses : mechanisms of viral immune escape
Sammanfattning : Herpesviruses are ubiquitous pathogens which after an often asymptomatic infection establish lifelong latency in the host. Control of the viral infection depends on both innate and adaptive immune system. LÄS MER
8. Modulation of invariant NKT cell activity by cytokines and receptors in human disease
Sammanfattning : Invariant natural killer T (NKT) cells are innate-like lymphocytes with both immunoregulatory and cytotoxic functions that play a role as activators and regulators of the immune response in many diseases. NKT cells are believed to bridge the innate and adaptive immune systems by rapidly producing large quantities of cytokines after recognition of CD1d-presented lipid antigens. LÄS MER
9. Innate and adaptive immune responses in viral and chronic inflammatory diseases
Sammanfattning : In this thesis I address some important questions regarding innate and adaptiveimmune responses in different human diseases. We analysed two distinctconditions: chronic autoimmune inflammation, specifically SLE, and chronic viralinfection, represented by herpes simplex virus (HSV). LÄS MER
10. Gene therapy of neuroblastoma
Sammanfattning : Aims: The survival of children with advanced stages of neuroblastoma has not improved significantly during recent years. Therefore additional treatments based on other modalities need to be developed. The objective of this thesis was to investigate the possibility to develop gene therapy of neuroblastoma. LÄS MER
