  1. 1. Exosomes and the NKG2D receptor-ligand system in pregnancy and cancer : using stress for survival

    Författare :Malin Hedlund; Lucia Mincheva-Nilsson; Susanne Gabrielsson; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Exsosomes; NKG2D; MICA; MICB; ULBP; human placenta; trophoblast; syncytiotrophoblast; thermal stress; oxidative stress; leukemia; lymphoma; immunologi; Immunology;

    Sammanfattning : Although not obvious at first sight, several parallels can be drawn between pregnancy andcancer. Many proliferative, invasive and immune tolerance mechanisms that supportnormal pregnancy are also exploited by malignancies to establish a nutrient supply andevade or edit the immune response of the host. 2. 2. Mechanisms for immune escape in epithelial ovarian cancer

    Författare :Pernilla Israelsson; Ulrika Ottander; Lucia Mincheva-Nilsson; Eva Lundin; Ivan Nagaev; Karin Sundfeldt; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; human; ovarian cancer; high-grade serous cancer; EOC; HGSC; HGSOC; tumor microenvironment; immune escape; immune suppression; cytokines; exosomes; NKG2D; MICA B; ULBP1-3; DNAM-1; surgery; obstetrik och gynekologi; Obstetrics and Gynaecology;

    Sammanfattning : Tumors develop mechanisms to subvert the immune system, constituting immune escape. Epithelial ovarian cancer (EOC), the deadliest of all gynecological malignancies, uses a variety of mechanisms to undermine immune surveillance, aiding its establishment and metastatic spreading. 3. 3. Immune modulation in serous epithelial ovarian cancer : focus on the role of tumor-derived exosomes

    Författare :Alireza Labani Motlagh; Lucia Mincheva-Nilsson; Ola Winqvist; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; ovarian cancer; EOC; HGSC; exosomes; NKG2D; MICA B; ULBP; DNAM-1; PVR; nectin-2; lncRNAs; immune suppression; anti-tumor immunity; NK-cell cytotoxicity; cytokines; Th1; Th2; T regulatory response; inflammation; tumor microenvironment;

    Sammanfattning : Serous epithelial ovarian cancer (EOC) is a potent suppressor of the immune defense. Here, we studied interactions between EOC and the immune system that lead to escape from tumor immune surveillance. LÄS MER

  4. 4. The Perfect Storm? Gluten and type 1 diabetes

    Författare :Emma Adlercreutz; Celiaki och diabetes; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; NKG2D; Celiac disease autoimmunity; Gluten; Type 1 diabetes; Perinatal risk;

    Sammanfattning : Aim: The general objective of the present research was to study the association between type 1 diabetes and celiac disease, and the effects of dietary gluten on the risk of developing type 1 diabetes. More specific aims were as follows: to estimate the prevalence of celiac-disease-associated autoantibodies in children with type 1 diabetes; to study the connection between non-HLA genetic risk markers and autoantibodies associated with type 1 diabetes and celiac disease during the first year after diagnosis of type 1 diabetes; to investigate the effect of gluten on the risk of developing type 1 diabetes; to evaluate the impact of perinatal factors on the risk of developing both type 1 diabetes and celiac disease. 5. 5. Immunomodulation during human pregnancy : placental exosomes as vehicles of immune suppression

    Författare :Ann-Christin Stenqvist; Lucia Mincheva-Nilsson; Maria Jenmalm; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; exosomes; microvesicles; pregnancy; placenta; syncytiotrophoblast; immune privilege; apoptosis; cytotoxicity; T regulatory cells; NKG2D; MICA B; FasL; TRAIL; immunologi; Immunology;

    Sammanfattning : The mammalian pregnancy comprises a challenge to the maternal immune system since the fetus is semi-allogeneic and could thus be rejected. Pregnancy success is associated with the placenta that is not only essential for oxygen supply, nourishment and pregnancy hormones but also plays a role in the protection of the fetus against maternal immunologic attack.
