11. T Cells and NK Cells in Coronary Artery Disease : Longitudinal and methodological studies in humans
Sammanfattning : Coronary artery disease (CAD) is the leading cause of death worldwide and most often due to atherosclerosis. Atherosclerosis is a chronic inflammatory process that involves the arteries, inclouding those that supply blood to the heart muscle. LÄS MER
12. The leukocyte complexity and mutational landscape of periampullary adenocarcinoma. Morphology matters
Sammanfattning : Background: Periampullary adenocarcinomas are a heterogenous group of tumours with poor prognosis that hasnot improved considerably the last decades. Tumour morphology, i.e. intestinal type (I-type) or pancreatobiliarytype (PB-type), has been demonstrated to be a more relevant prognostic factor than anatomical origin. LÄS MER
13. Mechanisms of leukemia-induced immunosuppression
Sammanfattning : This thesis aimed to define the role of reactive oxygen species (ROS), produced by the NADPH oxidase of myeloid cells, in the regulation of lymphocyte function with focus on ROS-induced dysfunction of natural killer (NK) cells and T lymphocytes in myeloid leukemia. In Paper I, a novel mechanism is presented by which specifically activated T lymphocytes evade inactivation by ROS after antigen presentation. LÄS MER
14. Live Single Cell Imaging and Analysis Using Microfluidic Devices
Sammanfattning : Today many cell biological techniques study large cell populations where an average estimate of individual cells’ behavior is observed. On the other hand, single cell analysis is required for studying functional heterogeneities between cells within populations. LÄS MER
15. Study of pathogenesis and immune response in human Puumala virus infection
Sammanfattning : Hantaviruses can cause two severe human diseases: hemorrhagic fever with renal syndrome (HFRS) and hantavirus cardiopulmonary syndrome (HCPS). Hantaviruses are spread to humans mainly through inhalation of infectious virions, secreted from infected rodents. The human diseases are characterized by an increased capillary leakage syndrome.
