1. Experimental septic shock – Effects of endotoxemia with special reference to pathophysiological responses in the pig
Sammanfattning : Sepsis and septic shock are conditions, with severe outcome or in many cases death. Sepsis is a systemic inflammatory response trigger by bacteraemia but systemic inflammatory response can also be triggered by major trauma, major surgery, pancreatitis, severe burns etc. LÄS MER
2. Secretory Leukocyte Protease Inhibitor (SLPI) in the gastrointestinal tract in man
Sammanfattning : Secretory leukocyte protease inhibitor is a 11.7 kDa acid stable serine protease inhibitor. SLPI has been shown to be the dominant protease inhibitor in bronchial secretions and has been used in treatment of pulmonary emphysema. LÄS MER
3. Infammatory response to hyperbaric trauma. An experimental and clinical study
Sammanfattning : Reductions in ambient pressure liberates gas in various tissues and can result in decompression illness. In this thesis the patophysiological implications of a blood gas interface resulting from decompression was investigated with reference to the influence on biochemical mediators of inflammation. 4. Cellular and molecular mechanisms in abdominal aortic aneurysm growth and rapture
Sammanfattning : Fragmentation of elastin, loss of smooth muscle cells (SMCs) and accumulation of inflammatory cells are the histological landmarks of abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA). In larger aneurysms, an intraluminal thrombus is almost always present. It has been suggested that the thrombus predisposes for AAA rupture. LÄS MER
5. The nuclear factor k[kappa]B signal transduction pathway : its role in atherogenesis and intimal hyperplasia
Sammanfattning : Vascular inflammation is a hallmark of major cardiovascular diseases such as atherosclerosis, and also suggested as a critical component implicated in intimal hyperplasia. Given its central role in regulating expression of inflammatory genes, the nuclear factor kappaB (NF-kappaB) signal transduction pathway was postulated to play an important role in these pathological processes.
