11. Chrohn's disease : aspects of epidemiology, clinical course, and faecal calprotectin
Sammanfattning : The overall aim of this thesis was to study epidemiological and clinical changes in the natural history of Crohn’s disease, its phenotype, the need for surgery and pharmacological therapy over time, as well as the role of faecal calprotectin as a biomarker of pathophysiology and disease course. An increased incidence and prevalence of Crohn’s disease was seen in the period 1963-2010. 12. Interleukin-1 Receptors and their Ligands
Sammanfattning : Interleukin-1 (IL-1) is an endogenous mediator of the inflammatory response. IL-1 executes its actions by binding and subsequent activation of the IL-1 receptor (IL-1R) proteins. Among the many systemic effects of IL-1, the fever response was the first to be investigated. LÄS MER
13. Effect of shock wave therapy on longitudinal bone growth and growth plate cartilage
Sammanfattning : Aim: The overall aim of this thesis was to investigate the potential for radial shock wave treatment (rSWT) to regulate growth plate chondrogenesis and longitudinal bone growth. It was based on the hypothesis that the effects are dose-dependent in a bimodal response pattern where low-energy rSWT will increase chondrocyte proliferation/hypertrophy, and thereby bone growth, while high frequency/energy rSWT will induce chondrocyte apoptosis and thereby, premature growth plate closure. 14. Oxidative stress in experimental traumatic brain injury
Sammanfattning : Traumatic brain injury (TBI) is a leading cause of death and disability among the young population in the industrialized world. The injury consists of immediate damage to the brain tissue, followed by a secondary response involving inflammation and oxidative stress. LÄS MER
15. Glucocorticoid in T cell differentiation
Sammanfattning : Thymocytes differentiate into mature T cells with an immunological restriction for self major histocompatibility complex (MHC) antigens. Cells that do not recognize self MHC expressed on thymic epithelial cells (TEC) die by a rapid induction of apoptosis (default selection). LÄS MER
