1. High-sensitivity Radioactive Xenon Monitoring and High-accuracy Neutron-proton Scattering Measurements
Sammanfattning : Two aspects of applied nuclear physics have been studied in this thesis; Monte Carlo simulations for high-sensitivity monitoring of radioactive xenon and high-accuracy neutron-proton scattering measurements for neutron physics applications and fundamental physics. The Monte Carlo simulations have been performed for two systems for detection of radioactive xenon, using the MCNP code. LÄS MER
2. Nuclear symmetry energy and neutron-proton pair correlations in microscopic mean field theory
Sammanfattning : A major task of nuclear structure theory is to develop an effective interaction that is capable to predict properties of nuclei under extreme conditions. In this thesis three different areas of effective interactions have been studied: i) the density dependence, which is of importance for the understanding of neutron stars and neutron rich nuclei; ii) the symmetry energy which governs the evolution of the binding energy with changing N/Z ratio; and iii) the neutron proton pairing energy. 3. Neutron-Deuteron Scattering and Three-Body Interactions
Sammanfattning : High-precision differential cross section data of the neutron-deuteron elastic scattering reaction at 95 MeV are presented. The neutron-proton scattering differential cross section was also measured and used as a reference to allow an accurate absolute normalization of the neutron-deuteron data. LÄS MER
4. Rotational Bands and Pairing Interaction in the Shell Model
Sammanfattning : One of the goals pursued in the present research was to understand the nuclear phenomena (such as rotational bands, their backbending and termination, deformation, pairing correlations, etc.) using different views provided by different nuclear models. LÄS MER
5. Experimental Studies of the Neutron Deficient Atomic Nuclei 88Ru and 87Tc, and the Diagonalization of the General Pairing Hamiltonian
Sammanfattning : This doctoral thesis consists of two parts: the experimental study of the neutron-deficient atomic nuclei 88Ru and 87Tc, and the computational study on the diagonalization of general pairing Hamiltonian. In the first part, which constitutes the main content of the thesis, the low-lying excited states in the N = Z nucleus 88Ru and N = Z + 1 nucleus 87Tc were studied via fusion-evaporation reactions induced by 115 MeV 36 Ar ions bombarding6 mg/cm 2 thick metallic 54 Fe target foils at the Grand Accélérateur Nationald’Ions Lourds (GANIL), Caen, France.
