  1. 11. NMR studies of host-pathogen interactions

    Författare :Katja Petzold; Jürgen Schleucher; Torleif Härd; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NMR; regulatory RNA; HBV; H.pylori; phospholipids; ROESY; Molecular biophysics; Molekylär biofysik; biokemi; Biochemistry;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis describes the use of Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) for characterizing two host-pathogen interactions: The behavior of a regulatory RNA of the Hepatitis B virus (HBV) and the attachment of Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) to the gastric mucosa. LÄS MER

  2. 12. New Roads for an Ancient Enzyme : Whole-Cell Studies and New Cofactors for [FeFe] Hydrogenases

    Författare :Marco Lorenzi; Gustav Berggren; Hannah Shafaat; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; [FeFe] hydrogenases; hydrogen; catalysis; photocatalysis; spectroscopy; whole-cell; semi-artificial enzymes; Chemistry with specialization in Molecular Biomimetics; Kemi med inriktning mot molekylär biomimetik;

    Sammanfattning : [FeFe] hydrogenases rare Nature’s best H2-processing catalysts, and one of the best candidates to satisfy societal need for cheap and efficient catalyst for H2-evolution. These enzymes owe their remarkable catalytic activities to their organometallic active site, called “H-cluster”. LÄS MER

  3. 13. Theory of water-proton spin relaxation in complex biological systems

    Författare :Zhiwei Chang; Biofysikalisk kemi; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; spin relaxation theory; immobilized macromolecules; magnetic relaxation dispersion; integral longitudinal relaxation rate; stochastic Liouville equations; multi-spin systems; cross-mode relaxation; spectral density functions;

    Sammanfattning : In complex biological systems (e.g. gels, cross-linked proteins and biological tissues), the longitudinal spin relaxation of water protons is primarily induced by exchange-mediated orientational randomization (EMOR) of intra- and intermolecular magnetic dipole-dipole couplings. 4. 14. Structural studies of metal-binding proteins revealing dynamic behaviour

    Författare :Maria Håkansson; Biokemi och Strukturbiologi; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Kemi; Chemistry; Molekylär biofysik; Molecular biophysics; zinc; magnesium; superantigen; calbindin D9k; X-ray crystallography; staphylococcal enterotoxin; structure; Chemical technology and engineering; Kemiteknik och kemisk teknologi;

    Sammanfattning : The Mg2+ and Mn2+ structures of calbindin D9k have been determined and they reveal a conformational change compared to the structures of apo and (Ca2+)2-calbindin D9k. These findings are unique, since normally calcium and not magnesium is known to induce conformational changes of EF-hand proteins. LÄS MER
