  1. 1. Geological Evolution of the Supracrustal Palaeoproterozoic Hamrånge Group: A Svecofennian Case Study

    Författare :Erik Ogenhall; Håkan Sjöström; Hans Annersten; Markku Väisänen; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Hamrånge; Ljusdal; Hagsta Gneiss Zone; geochemistry; geochronology; thermobarometry; metamorphism; fold-thrust belt.; Earth sciences; Geovetenskap; Geovetenskap med inriktning mot mineralogi; petrologi och tektonik; Earth Science with specialization in Mineral Chemistry; Petrology and Tectonics;

    Sammanfattning : The work presented in this thesis utilizes several geological methods to investigate the origin and evolution of the supracrustal rocks in the Palaeoproterozoic Hamrånge Group (HG) in the south-central Swedish Svecofennian. The first paper is based on whole-rock geochemistry to show the plate tectonic setting of volcanic rocks within the HG. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Coal and Oil: The Dark Monarchs of Global Energy : Understanding Supply and Extraction Patterns and their Importance for Future Production

    Författare :Mikael Höök; Kjell Aleklett; David Rutledge; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; oil production; coal production; depletion rate; forecasting; energy supply; Physics; Fysik; Other earth sciences; Övrig geovetenskap; Physical planning; Fysisk planläggning; Other engineering physics; Övrig teknisk fysik; Physics with specialization in Global Energy Resources; Fysik med inriktning mot globala energiresurser;

    Sammanfattning : The formation of modern society has been dominated by coal and oil, and together these two fossil fuels account for nearly two thirds of all primary energy used by mankind.  This makes future production a key question for future social development and this thesis attempts to answer whether it is possible to rely on an assumption of ever increasing production of coal and oil. 3. 3. The morphology and evolutionary significance of the anomalocaridids

    Författare :Allison Daley; Graham E. Budd; Nigel C. Hughes; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; anomalocaridids; Cambrian; Burgess Shale; exceptional preservation; palaeontology; Historical geology and palaeontology; Historisk geologi och paleontologi; Historical Geology and Paleontology; Historisk geologi och paleontologi;

    Sammanfattning : Approximately 600 to 500 million years ago, a major evolutionary radiation called the “Cambrian Explosion” gave rise to nearly all of the major animal phyla known today. This radiation is recorded by various fossil lagerstätten, such as the Burgess Shale in Canada, where soft-bodied animals are preserved in exquisite detail. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Processes of Magma-crust Interaction : Insights from Geochemistry and Experimental Petrology

    Författare :Frances M Deegan; Valentin R Troll; Luigi Dallai; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Canary Island magmatism; HP-HT experimental petrology; magma-crust interaction; Merapi volcano; radiogenic isotopes Sr; Nd; Pb ; stable isotopes O; B .; Solid earth geology and petrology; Berggrundsgeologi och petrologi; Geovetenskap med inriktning mot mineralogi; petrologi och tektonik; Earth Science with specialization in Mineral Chemistry; Petrology and Tectonics;

    Sammanfattning : This work focuses on crustal interaction in magmatic systems, drawing on experimental petrology and elemental and isotope geochemistry. Various magma-chamber processes such as magma-mixing, fractional crystallisation and magma-crust interaction are explored throughout the papers comprising the thesis. LÄS MER

  5. 5. The Kirunavaara hangingwall : a geophysical and petrophysical analysis

    Författare :Mai-Britt Mose Jensen; Håkan Mattsson; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Tillämpad geofysik; Applied Geophysics;

    Sammanfattning : Underground mining of the Kirunavaara iron mineralization is causing large-scale deformation of the hangingwall of the orebody. To understand and possibly even predict this deformation, a good understanding of the elastic and mechanical properties of the rocks in the hangingwall is necessary. LÄS MER
