  1. 1. Optimal strategies and information in foraging theory

    Författare :Emma Sernland; Högskolan i Skövde; []
    Nyckelord :NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Bayesian foraging; information use; public information; prior information; negative binomial distribution; group foraging; decision-making; information updating; leaving strategy; Ecology; Ekologi; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; Other biology; Övrig biologi; Naturvetenskap; Natural sciences; information use;

    Sammanfattning : In this thesis, I present both theoretical and empirical work where we have studied how humans and animals use information in situations where they need to continually update their information on the density of a resource. We have found that the amount of information, and the way the information is presented, are important factors for how well decisions are adapted to current circumstances. LÄS MER

  2. 2. The estrogen receptor in fish and effects of synthetic estrogens in the environment - Ecological and evolutionary perspectives and societal awareness

    Författare :Lina Nikoleris; Biodiversitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; the estrogen receptor; salmon evolution and ecology; contraceptives; information gaps; synthetic hormones; EE2; Atlantic salmon Salmo salar ; brown trout Salmo trutta ; roach Rutilus rutilus ;

    Sammanfattning : Synthetic hormones are a group of pharmaceuticals used for various human and animal treatments. However, consumption and disposal of these substances have also given rise to negative effects and environmental problems for organisms in the wild which is why these substances have been classified as estrogenic endocrine-disrupting chemicals (EDCs). 3. 3. Deciduous tree occurrence and large herbivore browsing in multiscale perspectives

    Författare :Gunilla Cassing; Larry Greenberg; Christina Skarpe; Karlstads universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; aspen; rowan; sallow; GIS; browsing; landscape; forest management; Biology; Biologi;

    Sammanfattning : Aspen ( Populus tremula), rowan (Sorbus auquparia) and sallow (Salix caprea) are deciduous tree species of low economic value for forestry and contribute to biodiversity of boreal forests. The species are rare in managed forest landscapes, and severely browsed by moose. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Hitting the mark : studies of alterations in behaviour and fertility in ethinyl estradiol-exposed zebrafish and search related biomarkers

    Författare :Nasim Reyhanian Caspillo; Inger Porsch Hällström; Per-Erik Olsson; Håkan Olsén; Leif Norrgren; Örebro universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Endocrine disrupting compounds; 17α-ethinylestradiol; fertility; anxiety; behaviour; zebrafish; biomarkers; stress; Biology; Biologi;

    Sammanfattning : In this thesis, we have analysed the effects of EE2 on non-reproductive behaviours and fertility. We have showed that two doses of EE2 in male adult short-term exposures evokes opposite behaviours in the novel tank test. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Bioremediation of Toxic Metals for Protecting Human Health and the Ecosystem

    Författare :Aminur Rahman; Abul Mandal; Jana Jass; Björn Olsson; Pawel Kaszycki; Örebro universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Heavy Metals; Pollution; Accumulation; Remediation; Human Health; Bacteria; Genome Sequencing; de novo Assembly; Gene Prediction; Biology; Biologi; Bioteknik; Biotechnology;

    Sammanfattning : Heavy metal pollutants, discharged into the ecosystem as waste by anthropogenic activities, contaminate drinking water for millions of people and animals in many regions of the world. Long term exposure to these metals, leads to several lethal diseases like cancer, keratosis, gangrene, diabetes, cardio- vascular disorders, etc. LÄS MER
