  1. 1. Population Differentiation in Solidago virgaurea along Altitudinal Gradients

    Författare :Anna Bergsten; Jon Ågren; Staffan Karlsson; Kari Lehtilä; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; population differentiation; altitudinal gradient; plant nutrient status; resorption efficiency; resorption proficiency; flowering phenology; countergradient variation; reproductive effort; flower production; cost of reproduction; Biology; Biologi; Other biology; Övrig biologi; Ecological Botany; Ekologisk botanik;

    Sammanfattning : Altitudinal gradients offer attractive opportunities for studies of population differentiation in response to environmental heterogeneity. In this thesis, I examined population differentiation along altitudinal gradients by combining common-garden experiments with field studies and experiments in alpine, subalpine and boreal populations of the perennial herb Solidago virgaurea. 2. 2. Optimal strategies and information in foraging theory

    Författare :Emma Sernland; Högskolan i Skövde; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Bayesian foraging; information use; public information; prior information; negative binomial distribution; group foraging; decision-making; information updating; leaving strategy; Ecology; Ekologi; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; Other biology; Övrig biologi; Naturvetenskap; Natural sciences; information use; Bayesian foraging; public information; prior information; negative binomial distribution; group foraging; decision-making; information updating; leaving strategy; Ecology; Ekologi;

    Sammanfattning : In this thesis, I present both theoretical and empirical work where we have studied how humans and animals use information in situations where they need to continually update their information on the density of a resource. We have found that the amount of information, and the way the information is presented, are important factors for how well decisions are adapted to current circumstances. LÄS MER

  3. 3. The estrogen receptor in fish and effects of synthetic estrogens in the environment - Ecological and evolutionary perspectives and societal awareness

    Författare :Lina Nikoleris; Biodiversitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; the estrogen receptor; salmon evolution and ecology; contraceptives; information gaps; synthetic hormones; EE2; Atlantic salmon Salmo salar ; brown trout Salmo trutta ; roach Rutilus rutilus ;

    Sammanfattning : Synthetic hormones are a group of pharmaceuticals used for various human and animal treatments. However, consumption and disposal of these substances have also given rise to negative effects and environmental problems for organisms in the wild which is why these substances have been classified as estrogenic endocrine-disrupting chemicals (EDCs). 4. 4. Managing mountains, past and present conditions for traditional summer farming and Sami reindeer husbandry in northern Scandinavia

    Författare :Weronika Axelsson Linkowski; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : Traditional land use and conditions for maintenance of biodiversity are often interlinked. When land use changes and ecosystems change as a result, there is a risk to loose both the traditional ecological knowledge and the biodiversity connected to this land use. LÄS MER

  5. 5. The role of rodents in the transmission of Echinococcus multilocularis and other tapeworms in a low endemic area

    Författare :Andrea Miller; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : Echinococcus multilocularis is zoonotic tapeworm in the Taeniidae family with a two part lifecycle involving a canid definitive host and a rodent intermediate host. The work of this thesis followed the first identification E. multilocularis in Sweden in 2011 in a red fox (Vulpes vulpes). LÄS MER
