6. Models in Neutrino Physics : Numerical and Statistical Studies
Sammanfattning : The standard model of particle physics can excellently describe the vast majorityof data of particle physics experiments. However, in its simplest form, it cannot account for the fact that the neutrinos are massive particles and lepton flavorsmixed, as required by the observation of neutrino oscillations. LÄS MER
7. Supersymmetry vis-à-vis Observation : Dark Matter Constraints, Global Fits and Statistical Issues
Sammanfattning : Weak-scale supersymmetry is one of the most favoured theories beyond the Standard Model of particle physics that elegantly solves various theoretical and observational problems in both particle physics and cosmology. In this thesis, I describe the theoretical foundations of supersymmetry, issues that it can address and concrete supersymmetric models that are widely used in phenomenological studies. LÄS MER
8. Aspects of the Duality between Supersymmetric Yang-Mills Theory and String Theory
Sammanfattning : This thesis deals with three topics related to the Ads/CFT correspondence. In Paper I, solutions describing the geometry of fractional D1-branes of Type IIB string theory are presented. The running coupling constant is computed on the gauge theory side. LÄS MER
9. Statistical methods in single particle fluorescence microscopy
Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis is stochastic modeling and statistical inference in single particle fluorescence microscopy related to the experimental observation of randomly moving particles. A central theme is the use of single particle microscopy for estimation of absolute concentration of nanoparticles performing Brownian motion. LÄS MER
10. Complex patterns : from physical to social interactions
Sammanfattning : Interactions are what gives us the knowledge of the world around us. Interactions on all levels may fundamentally be seen as an exchange of information and a possible response of the same. Whether it is an electron in an electrical field or a handsome dude in a bar responding to a flirtation---interactions make things happen. LÄS MER
