1. Three-nucleon forces in nuclear physics simulations
Sammanfattning : The aim of this licentiate thesis is to evaluate the normal-ordered two-body (NO2B)-approximation as a computationally promising way to incorporate realistic three-nucleon forces (3NFs) in nuclear many-body simulations using the no-core-shell-model. The existence and importance of 3NFs is predicted in chiral effective field theories of the strong-nuclear force. LÄS MER
2. Neutron induced light-ion production from iron and bismuth at 175 MeV
Sammanfattning : Light-ions (protons, deuterons, tritons, 3He and α articles) production in the interaction of 175 MeV neutrons with iron and bismuth has been measured using the Medley setup at the The Svedberg Laboratory (TSL) in Uppsala. These measurements have been conducted in the frame of an international collaboration whose aim is to provide the scientific community with new nuclear data of interest for the development of Accelerator Driven Systems, in the range of 20 to 200 MeV. 3. Atomic Scale Degradation of Zirconium Alloys for Nuclear Applications
Sammanfattning : Due to their low thermal neutron capture cross-section, zirconium alloys are widely used in the nuclear industry as fuel cladding and for structural components. The lifetime of the fuel assemblies in the reactors is primarily dictated by the ability of the cladding to withstand oxidation and hydrogen pick-up from the coolant water and radiation damage induced by the neutron flux. 4. Bridging scales in nuclear physics
Sammanfattning : In this thesis we present the ab initio no-core shell model (NCSM) and use this framework to study light atomic nuclei with realistic nucleon-nucleon interactions. In particular, we present results for radii and ground-state energies of systems with up to twelve nucleons. LÄS MER
5. Development of theoretical approaches for post-silicon information processing
Sammanfattning : Despite knowing the fundamental equations in most of the physics research areas, still there is an unceasing need for theoretical method development, thanks to the more and more challenging problems addressed by the research community. The investigation of post-silicon, non-classical information processing is one of the new and rapidly developing areas that requires tremendous amount of theoretical support, new understanding, and accurate theoretical predictions.
