11. Theoretical Studies of Natural Gas Hydrates and H-bonded Clusters and Crystals
Sammanfattning : In this thesis H-bonded systems (natural gas hydrates, water clusters, and crystal ice) are studied by density functional theory (DFT) computations.Natural gas hydrates (NGHs) play an important role in energy and environmental fields: NGHs are considered as a promising backup energy resource in the near-future due to their tremendous carbon content; improper exploration of NGHs could induce geological disasters and aggravate the greenhouse effect. 12. Methane oxidation over palladium oxide. From electronic structure to catalytic conversion
Sammanfattning : Understanding how catalysts work down to the atomic level can provide ways to improve chemical processes on which our contemporary economy is heavily reliant. The oxidation of methane is one such example, which is important from an environmental point of view. LÄS MER
13. Monitoring persistent organic pollutants (POPs) in sub-Arctic and Arctic marine mammals, 1984 - 2009
Sammanfattning : The Arctic has become an important indicator region for assessing persistence and bioaccumulation properties of persistent organic pollutants (POPs). This thesis is aimed at evaluating the occurrence of persistent halogenated POPs in seven species of sub-Arctic and Arctic marine mammals over a 25-year period. LÄS MER
14. Exploring the fate of emerging contaminants during hydrothermal regeneration of carbonaceous adsorbents
Sammanfattning : Wastewater from households and industries commonly contain emerging contaminants that are not easily removed by most wastewater treatment plants. These contaminants can be removed through adsorption onto adsorbents, such as activated carbon or biochars. LÄS MER
15. Phytoremediation of soil contaminated with per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS)
Sammanfattning : Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) are anthropogenic compounds recognised for their persistence, mobility and potential toxicity. This thesis examines the efficacy of phytoremediation as a potential technique for managing PFAS-contaminated soil and groundwater. LÄS MER
