  1. 6. On the crystallization of membrane proteins in lipidic sponge and cubic phases

    Författare :Pia Jeanette Hindrichsen; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; monoolein MO ; selachyl alcohol; cubic phase; sponge phase; small angle X-ray scattering; protein crystallization; phytantriol PT ;

    Sammanfattning : Membrane proteins are involved in many important biological processes and in order to understand their mechanism, their three-dimensional structures need to be elucidated to high resolution by for example X-ray crystallography. However, there is only limited structural knowledge for membrane proteins which is partly explained by the difficulties in obtaining well-diffracting crystals. LÄS MER

  2. 7. How could Christmas trees remain evergreen? : photosynthetic acclimation of Scots pine and Norway spruce needles during winter

    Författare :Pushan Bag; Stefan Jansson; Fransis Andre Wollman; Umeå universitet; []

    Sammanfattning : Plants and other green organisms harvest sunlight by green chlorophyll pigments and covertit to chemical energy (sugars) and oxygen in a process called photosynthesis providing the foundation for life on Earth. Although it is unanimously believed that oceanic phytoplanktons are the main contributors to the global photosynthesis, the contribution of coniferous boreal forests distributed across vast regions of the northern hemisphere cannot be undermined. 3. 8. Ethological control of the Mediterranean fruit fly Ceratitis capitata (Wied.)

    Författare :Ilich Figueroa; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Nyckelord :LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : The Mediterranean fruit fly Ceratitis capitata (Diptera: Tephritidae) is a serious threat for the Bolivian fruit sector. Despite its importance, few efforts have focussed on the development of alternative techniques to broad spectrum pesticides, especially those that suppress the pest using odour-mediated behavior manipulation. Författare :Petter Törnberg; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Evolutionary Developmental Theory; Complexity; Transitions; Naturalism; Innovation; Wicked Systems; Social Movements; Digital Trace Data; Innovation Society; Critical Realism;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis engages with questions on the boundary between what has traditionally been understood as social and natural. The introductory essay contextualizes the specific contributions of the included papers, by noting and exploring a reinvigoration of "naturalism" (the notion of a continuity between the human realm and the rest of natural phenomena) under the banner of Complexity Science. Sammanfattning : A balanced tear film is essential for a healthy ocular surface. Insufficient tear production may result in dry eye, a common disorder in the elderly population. Dry eye causes significant discomfort in the patients and may lead to visual impairment and ocular infections. LÄS MER
