  1. 16. Forest – stream linkages : Brown trout (Salmo trutta) responses to woody debris, terrestrial invertebrates and light

    Författare :Pär Gustafsson; Eva Bergman; Larry Greenberg; Kurt Fausch; Karlstads universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Brown trout; growth; foraging; woody debris; terrestrial invertebrates; light; riparian zone; forestry; stream; Freshwater ecology; Limnisk ekologi; Biology; Biologi;

    Sammanfattning : Forests surrounding streams affect aquatic communities in numerous ways, contributing to energy fluxes between terrestrial and lotic ecosystems. The five papers in this thesis focus on woody debris, terrestrial invertebrates and light, three factors influenced by riparian zone structure, potentially affecting streams and brown trout (Salmo trutta). 2. 17. Achieving carbon isotope mass balance in northern forest soils, soil respiration and fungi

    Författare :Björn Boström; Alf Ekblad; Phil Ineson; Örebro universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; 13C; Carbon cycle; Ectomycorrhizal fungi; Forest soil; Microbial respiration; Soil respiration; Stable isotopes; Biology; Biologi; Biology; Biologi;

    Sammanfattning : Northern forests contain a large part of the global terrestrial carbon pool and it is unclear whether they will be sinks or sources for atmospheric carbon if the climate warms as predicted. Stable isotope techniques provide unique tools to study the carbon cycle at different scales but the interpretation of the isotope data is impaired by our inability to close the carbon isotope mass balance of ecosystems. 3. 18. Exploring the species boundaries in terrestrial clitellates (Annelida: Clitellata)

    Författare :Svante Martinsson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Oligochaeta; species delimitation; Clitellata; Annelida; DNA-barcoding; cryptic species; Enchytraeidae; Lumbricidae; Naididae;

    Sammanfattning : The biological diversity in the soil is much higher than most people can imagine, and a very important group of animals living there are earthworms and other clitellate worms. It has been found that several clitellate morphospecies are in fact complexes of so called cryptic species, and the number of species in this group may be much higher than previously believed. 4. 19. Gas Exchange over Aquatic Interfaces and its Importance for Greenhouse Gas Emission

    Författare :Jovana Kokic; Sebastian Sobek; Erik Sahlée; Marcus B. Wallin; Anne Ojala; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; gas exchange; lake; stream; lake sediment; headwaters; carbon dioxide; methane; greenhouse gas emission; carbon; turbulence; Biology with specialization in Limnology; Biologi med inriktning mot limnologi;

    Sammanfattning : Aquatic ecosystems play a substantial role in global cycling of carbon (C), despite covering only about 4% of the earth surface. They emit large amounts of greenhouse gases (GHG) to the atmosphere, comparable to the amount of C stored annually in terrestrial ecosystems. In addition, C can be buried in lake sediments. LÄS MER

  5. 20. Temperature sensitivity of soil carbon decomposition : molecular controls and environmental feedbacks

    Författare :Björn Erhagen; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : The world's soils contain three times as much carbon as the atmosphere. Thus, any changes in this carbon pool may affect atmospheric CO₂ levels with implications for climate change. Anthropogenic contributions to global carbon and nitrogen cycles have increased in the last century. LÄS MER
