    Sammanfattning : The study of bacterial evolution is fundamental for addressing current problems of antibiotic resistance and emerging infectious diseases and lays a solid foundation for successful and rational design in biotechnology and synthetic biology. The main aim of this thesis is to test evolutionary hypotheses, largely based on theoretical considerations and sequence analysis, by designing scenarios in a laboratory setting to obtain experimental data. The infecting trophozoite cells do not invade the epithelium lining of the intestine, but attach to the brush border surface in the intestinal lumen.     Sammanfattning : The aim was to elucidate the cardiovascular response associated with breath-hold diving, especially the effects of temperature in its elicitation and the effects of different types of training on the human diving response (DR) and breath-holding time (BHT), and to evaluate the human DR in a mammalian perspective.
