  1. 16. Molecular studies on streptococcal surface proteins

    Författare :Johan Waldemarsson; Avdelningen för medicinsk mikrobiologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; nonimmunodominance; vaccine; camouflaging; Streptococcus agalactiae; leucine-rich repeat; Streptococcus pyogenes; alpha; fibrinogen; M protein; surface proteins; Rib;

    Sammanfattning : Streptococcus agalactiae and Streptococcus pyogenes are two related human pathogens causing different diseases. This thesis focuses on a number of surface proteins expressed by S. agalactiae and S. pyogenes and, more specifically, the molecular and biological characterization of these proteins. LÄS MER

  2. 17. Dual targeting of proteins to mitochondria and chloroplasts : Characterization of dual targeting peptides and their interaction with organellar receptors

    Författare :Erika Spånning; Elzbieta Glaser; Anthony Moore; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Biochemistry; biokemi;

    Sammanfattning : Most mitochondrial and chloroplastic proteins are synthesized in the cytosol as precursor proteins with an N-terminal targeting peptide (TP), which directs them to the correct organelle. There is also a group of proteins that are dual targeted to mitochondria and chloroplasts using an ambiguous N-terminal dual targeting peptide (dTP). LÄS MER

  3. 18. Light Protection in Plants: Characterisation of Violaxanthin de-epoxidase

    Författare :Erik Hallin; Biokemi och Strukturbiologi; []
    Nyckelord :violaxanthin de-epoxidase; cysteine; disulphide bond; function; pH activation; oligomerisation; circular dichroism; crosslinking; small angle x-ray scattering;

    Sammanfattning : Plants and algae need light to drive the photosynthetic machinery. An excess of light will, however, result in damage to the photosynthetic machinery and to the rest of the organism. The surplus of energy, when exposed to light stress is converted into less harmful heat energy through a process called non-photochemical quenching. LÄS MER

  4. 19. The ribosome, stringent factor and the bacterial stringent response

    Författare :Rose-Marie Jenvert; Lovisa Holmberg Schiavone; Suparna Sanyal; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Ribosome; stringent factor; stringent response; tRNA; ribosomal protein L11; pppGpp; Cell biology; Cellbiologi; cellbiologi; Cellbiology;

    Sammanfattning : The stringent response plays a significant role in the survival of bacteria during different environmental conditions. It is activated by the binding of stringent factor (SF) to stalled ribosomes that have an unacylated tRNA in the ribosomal A-site which leads to the synthesis of (p)ppGpp. LÄS MER

  5. 20. The molecular features in PKC epsilon determining its neurite-inducing capacity

    Författare :Mia Ling; Institutionen för translationell medicin; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; oncology; Cytology; neuroblastoma; neurite outgrowth; C1 domain; cancerology; cancer; onkologi; Cytologi; protein kinase C;

    Sammanfattning : Protein kinase C (PKC) is a family of serine/threonine kinases which are subgrouped into classical (a, bI, bII, g), novel (d, e, h, q) and atypical (z, i/l) isoforms. It has been shown that PKCe induces neurite outgrowth in neuroblastoma cells and the effect is mediated via the regulatory domain. LÄS MER
