2. Hormonal regulation of liver and tumor growth
Sammanfattning : The aims of this thesis were to investigate the regulatory functions of interleukin-6 (IL-6) and tumor necrosis factor-a (TNF-a) on liver growth, and the importance of hepatocyte growth factor (HGF) and the HGF receptor (Met) for growth of mesenchyme-derived tumors. The studies on different types of liver growth, measured as weight, DNA and protein content, and DNA synthesis, were performed on mice lacking the IL-6 or the TNF receptor-1 gene back-crossed to the C57bl/6 strain. 3. Method for measurement of exposure to electrophiles : Strategy for identification and exposure estimation using N-terminal haemoglobin adducts
Sammanfattning : We are exposed to many chemicals in our everyday life. Some of these chemicals could pose risks for our health. To reduce such risks, it is important to know what we are exposed to, how much, and how toxic the chemicals are. LÄS MER
4. Membrane protein proteomics - Novel method for membrane protein identification and quantification
Sammanfattning : Membrane proteins are fairly refractory to digestion especially by trypsin. Less specific proteases like elastase and pepsin are much more effective. However database searching using non-tryptic peptides is much less effective due to the lack of charge localisation at the N- and C-termini and the absence of sequence specificity. LÄS MER
5. Coordinating type III secretion system biogenesis in Yersinia pseudotuberculosis
Sammanfattning : Various Gram-negative bacteria utilize type III secretion system (T3SS) to deliver effectors into eukaryotic host cells and establish mutualistic or pathogenic interactions. An example is the Ysc-Yop T3SS of pathogenic Yersinia species. LÄS MER
