21. GABA-, glycine- and glutamate-induced currents in rat medial preoptic neurons : functional interactions and modulation by capsaicin
Sammanfattning : The medial preoptic nucleus (MPN) of the hypothalamus plays a major role in many functions involved in maintaining bodily homeostasis, such as thermoregulation and osmoregulation, as well as in the control of complex behaviours, e.g. sexual behaviour. LÄS MER
22. Movement pattern analysis of hypoglutamatergic mice. A model for cognitive deficits of schizophrenia and autism?
Sammanfattning : Schizophrenia and autism are two severe neuropsychiatric disorders that are associated withprofound cognitive disturbances which considerably contribute to the long-term morbidity andthe decreased ability to function in the society. Currently used therapies do not reach the corecognitive disturbances to a satisfactory extent. LÄS MER
23. Development of in vitro and ex vivo positron-emitting tracer techniques and their application to neurotrauma
Sammanfattning : The use of positron-emitting tracers has been extended beyond tomographic facilities in the last few years, giving rise to a general positron-emitting tracing technique. The methodological part of the present thesis involved the evaluation of the performance of storage phosphor (SP) plates, with tracers labeled with high-energy, short-lived, positron-emitting radionuclides, using homogenized tissue specimens and autoradiography with frozen brain sections. 24. Cholecystokinin, dopamine and glutamate in subcortical and peripheral control of food intake
Sammanfattning : This thesis analyzes some of the mechanisms whereby cholecystokinin octapeptide (CCK-8) inhibits food intake in male rats. Depletion of monoamines using reserpine blocked the capacity for ingestive responses. These responses were restored in reserpinized rats by treatment with the non-competitive N-methyl-D-aspartate receptor antagonist MK-801. LÄS MER
25. Schizophrenia and Nitric Oxide: Deficits in Information Processing Invetigated in Animal Models
Sammanfattning : Rationale: Schizophrenia-like symptoms can be induced in humans by phencyclidine (PCP), a non-competitive antagonist of the N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA) receptor. Schizophrenic patients and PCP-treated animals display deficits in pre-attentive information processing, as assessed by e.g. prepulse inhibition of the acoustic startle response. LÄS MER
