1. Experimental studies of N-methyl-D-aspartate receptor NR3 subunits
Sammanfattning : This thesis focuses on the NR3A and NR3B subunits of the excitatory glutamate receptor N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA). Functional NMDA receptors are believed to be tetrameric complexes with combinations of NR1 and NR2 subunits, and possible addition of NR3 subunits. LÄS MER
2. The N-methyl-D-aspartate receptor subunit NR3A : cloning, expression and interacting proteins
Sammanfattning : This thesis focuses on the subunit NR3A, which together with subunits NR1, NR2A-NR2D and NR3B builds the excitatory glutamate receptor N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA). The receptor is most likely a tetramer, containing at least one NR1, probably two NR2 and sometimes one NR3 subunit. LÄS MER
3. CNS Targets for GH and IGF-1 : Emphasis on Their Regulation in Relation to Cognitive Processes
Sammanfattning : The interest for the growth hormone/insulin-like growth factor-1 (GH/IGF-1) axis and its role in the central nervous system (CNS) has grown during the past decade. GH has been associated with psychological functions as sleep, mood, general well-being and learning and memory. LÄS MER
4. Pathophysiology of subarachnoid hemorrhage in the rat
Sammanfattning : Subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) causes brain damage, but the underlying mechanisms are poorly understood. An obstacle in SAH research is the lack of an adequate animal model. In this thesis, we developed a new approach to simulate SAH that involves the injection of blood into the prechiasmatic cistern of the rat. LÄS MER
5. Comparative genome and proteome analysis of brain tissue from MK-801-treated rats
Sammanfattning : Symptoms of intoxication with non-competitive N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA)-receptor antagonists, closely mimic symptoms in patients with schizophrenia, and therefore [+]-5-methyl-10,11-dihydro-5H-dibenzo-[a,d]-cycloheptene-5,10-iminehydrogen-maleate (MK-801, dizocilpine) treated rodents are often used as a model for schizophrenia. To investigate if administration of the NMDA receptor antagonist MK-801 to rats would induce messenger ribonucleic acid (mRNA) or protein disturbances mimicking those observed in schizophrenic patients, complementary deoxyribonucleic acid (cDNA) microarrays and two-dimensional gel-electrophoresis in combination with mass spectrometry were used, respectively.
