1. Behaviour of Lycaenid butterfly larvae in their mutualistic interactions with ants
Sammanfattning : Interspecific mutualism often involves partners trading different kinds of services. The cost and benefits of the trade may differ from one interaction to the next, or fluctuate over time in a single interaction, due to factors both internal and external to the mutualism itself. 3. Responses to reduced industrial metal emissions : An ecotoxicological study on Pied Flycatcher (Ficedula hypoleuca, Aves)
Sammanfattning : Metals have been used by humans for thousands of years, and this has resulted in increased concentrations in the biosphere. The environment around point-sources, such as mines and smelters, are of particular concern, as metals may accumulate to high concentrations, and potentially reach levels toxic to the local flora and fauna. 4. Dynamics in Random Boolean Networks
Sammanfattning : There are many examples of complex networks in science. It can be genetic regulation in living cells, computers on the Internet, or social and economic networks. In this context, Boolean networks provide simplistic models that are relatively easy to handle using computer simulations and mathematical methods. LÄS MER
5. Nitric Oxide Synthase in Pancreatic Islets During Trauma and Parenteral Feeding
Sammanfattning : The influence of trauma (acute pancreatitis) or total parenteral nutrition (TPN) on pancreatic islet hormone secretion in relation to islet expression of inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) was investigated. Acute pancreatitis resulted in an impaired glucose-stimulated insulin secretion (GSIS) which was found to be parallelled by a marked expression of iNOS and an exaggerated NO production in the pancreatic islets.
