6. Molecular-dynamics simulations of polymeric surfaces for biomolecular applications
Sammanfattning : In-vitro diagnostics plays a very important role in the present healthcare system. It consists of a large variety of medical devices designed to diagnose a medical condition by measuring a target molecule in a sample, such as blood or urine. LÄS MER
7. Artificial neural networks for assessment of patients with suspected acutemyocardial infarction
Sammanfattning : An early diagnosis within the first hours after onset of symptoms is essential for the optimal treatment of patients admitted with chest pain of suspected cardiac origin. In the majority of patients, the 12-lead ECG is nondiagnostic on admission. LÄS MER
8. Development of a Novel QCM Technique for Protein Adsorption Studies
Sammanfattning : The first part of this thesis (Papers I and II) is concentrated on the development of a novel quartz crystal microbalance (QCM) technique to study protein adsorption. The second part (Papers III-V) is focused on the application of the technique on protein adsorption using well characterized surface-solution-protein systems. LÄS MER
9. Macromolecules at Interfaces
Sammanfattning : In this thesis, the structure and stability of globular proteins adsorbed onto nanometer-sized hydrophilic silica particles were investigated using differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), hydrogen/deuterium exchange (HDX), and mass spectrometry (MS). The adsorption process itself was characterized with fluorescence and absorption spectroscopy and surface plasmon resonance (SPR). LÄS MER
10. Analytical aspects on luminol chemiluminescence and some applications in clinical chemistry and immunology
Sammanfattning : In order to use the protohematin catalyzed chemiluminescent oxidation of luminol for sensitive determination of substances of interest in clinical chemistry, the kinetics and mechanism of the reaction were studied. The results were used to design optimized reaction conditions for assays of serum hemoglobin, serum albumin, antibody against serum albumin, and serum myoglobin. LÄS MER
