16. Production of human heme-binding proteins in plants for potential pharmaceutical and nutritional uses
Sammanfattning : Plants have a long history as a source of nutrition and medication. In the last few decades, interest has also emerged in using plants as a production system for protein pharmaceuticals, in part due to possible scale-up- and safety-benefits with this method of production. LÄS MER
17. Unravelling the structure and dynamics of lipid nanoparticles for biomolecule delivery
Sammanfattning : Encapsulation in self-assembled lipid structures has been shown to increase the stability of large biomolecules, including proteins and nucleic acids (NAs), which has many potential applications in the food and pharmaceutical industries. In order to fully optimise the encapsulation system for a certain application, however, it is important to understand the effect of the encapsulated biomolecule on the lipid structure and vice versa. 18. Clades in the "higher land bird assemblage"
Sammanfattning : This thesis summarizes the results of several phylogenetic studies of birds included in the “higher land bird assemblage” (Anomalogonatae sensu Beddard 1898). The phylogenetic analyses are primarily based on gene sequences obtained from the nuclear genome (exons of the c-myc and RAG-1 genes and an intron of the myoglobin gene). LÄS MER
19. Quantum Chemical Interpretation of Protein Crystal Structure
Sammanfattning : An initial model in the crystallographic structure determination process, usually contains many errors. To produce an accurate model, one must carry out several cycles of crystallographic refinement. LÄS MER
20. Lubrication and Surface Properties of Adsorbed Layers of Polyelectrolytes and Proteins
Sammanfattning : Friction forces between protein / polyelectrolyte layers, adsorption properties of proteins, and conformational changes due to variation in electrolyte concentration have been investigated. The aim was to obtain better understanding of adsorbed layer properties, with focus on the relation between layer structure and lubrication capabilities. LÄS MER
