  1. 11. Detection of immunoglobulin heavy chain gene rearrangement with PCR for MRD analysis in lymphoproliferative disorders

    Författare :Ulf Thunberg; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Genetics; Minimal residual disease; Immunoglobulin gene rearrangement; PCR; Leukemia; Lymphoma; Myeloma; Genetik; Clinical genetics; Klinisk genetik; Pathology; patologi;

    Sammanfattning : Immunoglobulin heavy chain (IGH) gene rearrangement occurs during early B-lymphocyte differentiation, assembling the different IGH gene segments to a functional gene, which can serve as a marker for study of lineage association and detection of Minimal Residual Disease (MRD) in clonal diseases deriving from B-lymphocytes or their early differentiation stages. Use of a molecular marker for the leukemic cells could help improve treatment by monitoring therapeutic efficacy, predicting relapse, and identifying very small amounts of tumour cells contaminating autografts after purging or enrichment of stem cells. 2. 12. Genetic analyses of multiple myeloma and related plasma cell dyscrasias

    Författare :Therese Nilsson; Avdelningen för klinisk genetik; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Genetik; cytogenetik; cytogenetics; Genetics; FISH; cytogenetic; multiple myeloma; MGUS;

    Sammanfattning : Acquired genetic changes have proved to be of diagnostic and prognostic importance in different hematologic malignancies as well as in some solid tumor types. However, although multiple myeloma (MM), an incurable disease, and its proceeding stage monoclonal gammopathy of undetermined significance (MGUS) are quite common, little is known about the karyotypic features of these plasma cell dyscrasias. 3. 13. Tumour Survival Signals and Epigenetic Gene Silencing in Multiple Myeloma : Implications for Biology and Therapy

    Författare :Charlotte Fristedt Duvefelt; Helena Jernberg-Wiklund; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Multiple myeloma; Polycomb; apoptosis; cIAP2; IAP-inbibitors; proteasome inhibitors; LBH589; PPP; DZNep;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis is focused on multiple myeloma (MM), a haematological malignancy that still remains incurable. The pathogenesis of MM is not fully understood and there is a large intra-tumour and interclonal genetic variation in MM patients. LÄS MER

  4. 14. Aspects of interferon alpha signalling in hematopoetic cells

    Författare :Lennart Carlsson; erik lundgren; Ulrich Kalinke; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Molecular biology; interferon; human; B-lymphocyte; survival; proliferation; myeloma; Molekylärbiologi; Molecular biology; Molekylärbiologi; molekylärbiologi; Molecular Biology;

    Sammanfattning : The type I interferons (IFN) are a family of cytokines with pleiothropic activities that include inhibition of viral replication, cell proliferation and activation of the immune system. These properties give the IFNs important physiological and pathological roles in infection and cancer and have led to their therapeutic use for many clinical conditions. LÄS MER

  5. 15. Clinical studies in multiple myeloma

    Författare :Johan Lund; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Multiple Myeloma (MM) is an incurably disease of the bone marrow. It is characterized by the uncontrolled growth of clonal plasma cells (PCs) and leads to production of non-functional gammaglobulin. Clinical features include loss of normal bone marrow function, defect bone structure and kidney failure. LÄS MER
