11. Targeting Mycobacterium tuberculosis Proteins: Structure and Function Studies of Five Essential Proteins
Sammanfattning : This thesis describes the target selection, cloning, expression, purification, crystallization, structure and biochemical characterization of five essential Mycobacterium tuberculosis (Mtb) proteins. The search for drugs against the causal agent of tuberculosis is urgently needed and the targeting of essential genes is necessary to fulfill this goal. LÄS MER
12. Drug-resistant Mycobacterium tuberculosis in Estonia
Sammanfattning : Tuberculosis (TB) infection and disease patterns among different populations are extremely heterogeneous. This thesis explores mainly by microbiological methods the epidemiology of TB in Estonia. Through the work high rates of drug resistance were found. LÄS MER
13. Mycobacterium tuberculosis and the human macrophage : shifting the balance through inflammasome activation
Sammanfattning : Mycobacterium tuberculosis is a very successful pathogen and tuberculosis constitutes a major threat to global health worldwide. The World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that almost nine million new cases and 1. LÄS MER
14. Structural Studies of a Xyloglucan Endotransglycosylase from Populus tremula x tremuloides and Three Conserved Hypothetical Proteins from Mycobacterium tuberculosis
Sammanfattning : This thesis describes the structural studies of four different proteins from two organisms. Xyloglucan endotransglycosylases, XETs, are involved in plant cell wall expansion and remodeling by splitting and reconnecting xyloglucan-cellulose crosslinks. The first crystal structure of a XET enzyme has been determined to 1.8 Å. LÄS MER
15. Molecular Palaeopathology : Ancient DNA analyses of the bacterial diseases tuberculosis and leprosy
Sammanfattning : This thesis “Molecular Palaeopathology. Ancient DNA analyses of the bacterial diseases tuberculosis and leprosy” deals with molecular palaeopathology, i.e. in this case the use of molecular methods to analyse ancient bacterial DNA in order to get further knowledge of diseases in ancient times.
