  1. 6. Biomechanical studies of finger extension function. Analysis with a new force measuring device and ultrasound examination in rheumatoid arthritis and healhty muscles

    Författare :Sofia Brorsson; Elena Gutierrez Farewik; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Grip force; finger extension force; ultrasound; hand exercise; rheumatoid arthritis; muscle architecture; GAT; DASH; SF-36; Muscles;

    Sammanfattning : Aims: The overall aim of this thesis was to further our understanding of extensor muscles and their role for hand function. The aims of the studies were: To develop and evaluate a new device for finger extensor force measurements. To evaluate ultrasound as a tool for assessment of muscle architecture. LÄS MER

  2. 7. Identification of downstream targets of Alk signaling in Drosophila melanogaster

    Författare :Gaurav Varshney; Ruth Palmer; Udo Hacker; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Drosophila; Alk; Jeb; visceral muscles; somatic muscles; Delilah; Goliath; Hand; Molecular biology; Molekylärbiologi;

    Sammanfattning : The Drosophila gene Anaplastic lymphoma kinase (Alk) is homologous to mammalian ALK, a member of the Alk/Ltk family of receptor tyrosine kinases. In Drosophila Alk is crucial for development of the embryonic visceral mesoderm, where it is the receptor for Jelly Belly (Jeb) ligand. LÄS MER

  3. 8. Context dependent adaptation of biting behavior in human

    Författare :Anders Johansson; Benoni Edin; Karl-Gunnar Westberg; Peter Svensson; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; EMG; bite force; human; mastication; muscles; jaw opening reflex; motor control; reflex modulation; periodontal attachment loss; periodontitis; fysiologi; Physiology;

    Sammanfattning : The focus of this thesis was to study an action that humans perform regularly, namely, to hold a morsel between the teeth and split it into smaller pieces. Three different issues related to this biting behavior were addressed:  (1) the effect of reduced periodontal tissues on food holding and splitting behavior; (2) the behavioral consequences of performing different bite tasks with different functional requirements, i. 4. 9. Exercise-induced muscle soreness : a qualitative and quantitative study of human muscle morphology and function

    Författare :Jan Fridén; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Human; exercise; exertion; eccentric contractions; muscles; muscle strength; muscle soreness; fibre types; myofibrils; muscle proteins; histocy to chemistry; ultrastructure; stereology;

    Sammanfattning : Exercise-induced muscle soreness is characterized by stiffness, tenderness and pain during active movements and weakness of the affected musculature the days after unusually or particularly heavy work. The most pronounced subjective symptoms do not arise immediately but rather between a couple of hours to some days after the exercise (a delayed-onset of muscle soreness), the intensity of pain is greatest about 48 hours after the work.
