  1. 6. Immunotherapy and COX-2 inhibition against malignant brain tumors

    Författare :Sofia Eberstål; Neurokirurgi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Malignant brain tumors; immunotherapy; IFN-γ; GM-CSF; COX-2 inhibition;

    Sammanfattning : Glioblastoma multiforme (GBM) is the most common primary brain tumor in the central nervous system and the prognosis is very poor despite conventional therapies including surgery, chemo- and radiotherapy. Peripheral vaccination with irradiated tumor cells represent a novel therapy that targets both dividing and non-dividing tumor cells and minimizes the risk of therapy resistance by presenting multiple tumor antigens. 2. 7. Genotype-phenotype studies in brain tumors

    Författare :Soma Ghasimi; Ulrika Andersson; Beatrice Melin; Roger Henriksson; Clemens Dirven; Umeå universitet; []

    Sammanfattning : Meningioma and glioma are the most common primary brain tumors, but their etiologies are largely unknown. Although meningioma is usually benign, their intracranial location can lead to lethal consequences, and despite progress in surgery, radiotherapy, and chemotherapy the prognosis for patients with glioma remains poor. 3. 8. Molecular genetic studies of human thyroid tumors

    Författare :Tony Frisk; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []

    Sammanfattning : Tumors of the thyroid gland are common among the general population, but only a small proportion is malignant. The vast majority of thyroid tumors are benign, so called follicular adenomas. Sometimes subtypes such as atypical adenomas and adenomas with oxyphil, i.e. LÄS MER

  4. 9. Multiple primary malignancies in breast cancer patients. From population study to genetics

    Författare :Jenny Nyqvist; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; breast cancer; multiple primary malignancies; genetic alterations;

    Sammanfattning : Breast cancer (BC) is one of the most common causes of cancer-related death among women worldwide. Due to early detection of BC and more tailor-made treatments, patients live longer despite their illness. Studies have shown that BC patients are at risk of developing new tumors in organs other than the breast, mainly caused by BC treatment. LÄS MER

  5. 10. Pancreatic Endocrine Tumors and GIST - Clinical Markers, Epidemiology and Treatment

    Författare :Sara Ekeblad; Britt Skogseid; Peter Stålberg; Barbro Eriksson; Rajesh Thakker; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Medicine; Pancreatic endocrine tumor; Gastrointestinal stromal tumor; Neuroendocrine; Multiple endocrine neoplasia type 1; Prognostic factors; Temozolomide; TNM staging; O6-methylguanine DNA methyltransferase; Growth hormone secretagogue receptor; Ghrelin; Medicin;

    Sammanfattning : Pancreatic endocrine tumors and gastrointestinal stromal tumors are rare. Evidence regarding prognostic factors, and in the former also treatment, is scarce. We evaluated the survival and prognostic factors in a consecutive series of 324 patients with pancreatic endocrine tumors treated at a single institution. LÄS MER
